Life School Mountain Creek (Dec.20)
A message from Mrs. Mease
This holiday season give your child and family the gift of time. Relax at a park for a day and have a picnic. Take a nature walk at a local preserve. Visit the local library. Enjoy a meal together as a family. Have a night in with the family and play a favorite board game. The most important things in life are family and friends, so this holiday season make an effort to spend quality time with both. As parents, you are extremely important to your children. This month, make it a goal to spend an evening, day or weekend with them. Remember, bigger is not necessarily better. The time you spend with them does not have to be at a theme park or fancy resort! It can be reading a book together, playing catch, decorating cookies, or telling stories together. This is the time to provide your child with the memories he/she will never forget. The holiday season is all about giving, and the quality time you spend together can be better than anything wrapped up in a bow under the tree! Please remember that students should continue to read, write and practice their math facts over winter vacation! Reading and writing can be about topics they enjoy and shared with parents and siblings alike.
In closing, please mark your calendars - we will have an early release tomorrow on December 21st at 12 pm. There will be no school on December 24th - January 7th. School resumes on January 8th. It is our hope that you enjoy your holidays surrounded by the ones you love.

Mindfulness is the act of being present in the moment. The benefits of practicing mindfulness for adults and children are inimitable. We have done a few mindfulness activities during guidance lessons this fall. The following activities are tips you can try over the holiday break to help release stress, live in the moment, and bring your family closer together.
Take a nature walk. Set out with a goal of collecting 5 beautiful things from nature. When you return home make an ornament or a holiday decoration with your collection.
Blow bubbles with the family. A simple homemade bubble recipe is 1 cup water, 4 tablespoons dish soap and 1 tablespoon corn syrup or glycerin.
Talk about gratitude. This is a great time to discuss gratitude perhaps starting with writing thank you notes for gifts.
Do a breathing exercise. Start in a calm quiet place. Have them imagine smelling a birthday cake. Inhale while imagining the smell and exhale by pretending to blow out the candles. Repeat the process 5 times.
Embrace all feelings. There will be trying times during the holidays. When you see things beginning to escalate remember to breathe. Remind your child to breathe as well. Allow your child to express their feelings and acknowledge that all feelings are normal, sometimes they are good and sometimes they are bad, but they are all okay to have.
These are just a few suggestions, but will hopefully get your family started toward a peaceful and rejuvenating holiday.
