Survey Responses Drive Goals for 2019-20
Forest Grove Elementary thanks the 166 families who took the time to fill out our survey regarding our progress on our school goals. We received excellent, useful feedback that informed us on how we are doing and where can improve next year. Here are some highlights from this year’s survey.
Safety
We had 98% of our respondents either agree or strongly agree that their children feel safe at Forest Grove. We feel like this is an excellent reflection of our staff’s efforts to build a physically, emotionally, and intellectually safe learning environment for our students.
Another 93% of our respondents agreed that our facilities are safe and well maintained. Some concerns were listed mostly including landscaping, needed repairs, safety practices during recess, and pick up/drop off areas, and we will continue working to improve in these areas.
Reading and Writing Curriculum
Our families judged our reading and writing programs to be effective with 92% agreement that the reading program was meeting students’ needs and 91% in agreement that the writing program was effective.
While some respondents expressed individual concerns, we received many positive messages regarding the SuperKids reading curriculum in grades TK-2.
Math
There were 89% of our families that agreed that Forest Grove’s math program was meeting their children’s needs.
A number of parents commented that their children needed a more challenging math curriculum. To address this need, the district is adopting Swun Math, a program more closely aligned to the rigor demanded of the California Content Standards in Mathematics.
Social Emotional Learning
With regard to social emotional learning, 91% of our parents agreed that Forest Grove helps their student cope with anxiety and build positive peer relationships.
Parent comments indicated a desire for more education to occur in area of social emotional learning. In response to this feedback and input from our staff, Forest Grove will be implementing a schoolwide social emotional learning curriculum next year called The Toolbox by Dovetail Learning. More information regarding this program will be available in the future.
Our School Site Council who developed this survey truly valued the information we received from this survey. We used this input to help craft next year’s goals which will be similar, although not the same, as this year’s. Most importantly, this feedback helps drive decision making at our school, and we appreciate you taking the time to respond.
Sincerely,
Buck Roggeman, Principal.
