The Eagles' Nest
February 2019
From the Principal's Point of View...
Dear Eagleville Families,
February is upon us as we are officially halfway through this school year! Our 4th graders had an amazing Popcorn, Pillows and PJ event that was extremely well attended. Thank you to our Home and School and the parent volunteers who made that event so special. The month of February has some fun events for all grade levels. All Methacton Elementary schools will participate in “Proud to be ME week”. This occurs Monday February 4- Friday February 8. During this week, students will be able to express themselves through a week of dress up days and activities. Eagleville will celebrate school day 100 on February 11 (barring any weather issues) and we will be wearing our Eagleville attire or blue and gold that day. On February 22, our second grade will celebrate George Washington’s birthday with a breakfast, Lady Washington will be visiting to talk about life in colonial times. Additionally, school wide, we will be celebrating Read across America Feb. 25 – March 1. We will end this weeklong event honoring Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Friday, March 1 (official birthday March 2).
Report cards are now available to view as we prepare for Parent/Teacher Conferences on Feb. 19. Please note that Feb. conferences are optional. It is important to review the conference request to determine if your child’s teacher wishes to meet with you at this time and return conference forms immediately. Confirmations will be sent home by the end of the week.
Finally, I wish to share some mid-year reminders. For those parents who utilize the carline for your child’s safety, carline placards must be visible on your mirror or dashboard every afternoon during pickup. In addition, to help with efficiency and safety, especially in the cold weather, we ask that parents remain in their vehicle during drop-off and pick-up. Additional, please refrain from sending in toys as these may become a distraction in class or on the bus. Continuing to dress your child appropriately for the cold weather with hat, gloves and warm jackets are important for their safety. I appreciate your cooperation!
In other District News, on Friday, February 8 at 8:15 a.m., Arcola Intermediate School will be holding an assembly to recognize those who serve/have served our country as members of the military. The staff and students will be dedicating a Chair of Honor in the newly refurbished Arcola auditorium as part of this program. A Chair of Honor is an unoccupied chair that is a memorial to all the brave men and women who served in the military of this great nation, but have not returned home to us. It symbolizes there will always be a seat in Arcola awaiting their return.
Community members are welcome to attend – please be prepared to sign in upon arrival (with driver’s license) in the Arcola Main Office.
Dr. Karey Kochenour, Acting Principal

CONGRATULATIONS EAGLEVILLE!
Eagleville Elementary was recognized as a Title I School of Distinction for High Progress. This means that Eagleville is among the highest 5% of Title I schools based on aggregate progress in closing the achievement gap in math and reading PSSA exams. Eagleville is one of only 86 Title I schools statewide to be recognized with this distinction. Our school was part of a statewide recognition ceremony in Pittsburgh earlier this month. And, for those of you who remember, Eagleville actually held this distinction a few years ago as well. Great job Eagleville!
