Progress Update
Guided Reading
In guided reading Colin is reading a level I text with high accuracy. He is currently still finger pointing when he is reading. We will work on attempting to phase this out. Comprehension is an area that we will continue to provide support with. After he reads Ms. Williams does a check for understanding and this at times is difficult for him. I will be introducing strategies that will help support his understanding and organize the information in the story. As we know he comprehension is high in areas of interest, but needs support with other areas especially fiction based text.
Math
Math is an area of strength for Colin. He knows his facts and can apply them to the learning. The only area that we are seeing some weakness is word problems. We will continue to assist him with this area. Today we did some problem solving with word problems. The open ended questions are a little more challenging, but he did figure it out.
Writing
Colin struggles with writing. He writes a lot, but often times he isn't writing what the task is. The content is often unrelated to the mini lesson. For example when asked to write a personal narrative after the lesson he began writing facts about the presidents in his journal. Ms. Mark and his aid provides support in attempt to assist him with staying on topic.
Other
During mini lessons we have Colin sits up front and cue his attention to our discussion. When called on to answer a question he often requires support and help to get to the answer. We will continue to provide support as he gets to know our routine. We will keep you in the loop as the skills become more challenging to let you know how he does.
