News and Information
Christmas Party
Our Christmas Party will be Wednesday, Dec. 20 from 8;15-9:00. Everyone is invited to come and celebrate with us. I sent home a list of needed food items yesterday. If you can help us out return the form. I will send a confirmation note to those who need to send something. Please don't send anything until you get the confirmation, that way you won't purchase extra things that may not be needed.
Items still needed after Friday's donations :
40 sausage links (cooked before you send them please!)
fruit (strawberries, grapes, banana chunks are suggestions)
1 gallon of chocolate milk
3 boxes of candy canes
Gift Exchange- Since you may be doing some shopping soon!
Our class will be having a gift exchange during the Christmas Party. We ask that you limit the price of your gift to $3.00. Boys need to bring a gift for a boy. Girls need to bring a gift for a girl. We will be playing a game to distribute the gifts, so on the tag please just have your child sign their name. They may bring their gift in anytime that is convenient prior to Dec. 20th.
Paper Grocery Bags Needed
Each child will need to bring a large PAPER GROCERY (or reusable shopping) BAG to school no later than Friday, Dec. 16. I line the bags up down the classroom and as I take down the holiday decorations they made I walk by and drop them in the open bags. The bag needs to be large, have a flat bottom and be able to stand up on its own. If you have a large collection of paper bags and would like to donate I would appreciate it. Thank you.
If you’d like to sit with your child at lunch we’d love to have you. Lunch begins at 11:47 a.m. If you wish to eat the school lunch, please call the office to order a tray.

Reading
This week continued focusing on summarizing and fixing up problems we have when reading. For example when we come to a word we don’t know we can chunk it, look for the parts we already know, use a picture clue and/ or read the rest of the sentence to decide what might make the most sense. We continue to work on fluency, vocabulary, phonics and phonemic awareness each day. We are working on summarizing a fictional text using the prompts- Somebody, Wanted, So, But, Then. We worked on finding the most important parts of the story to include in our summary and wrote them using our own words.
Math Skills For This Week
We are using the following chants:
numbers the same - zero's the game
more on top- don't stop
more on the floor- trade next door
English and Writing
In writing, we are writing persuasive letters to Santa. We don't just get to ask for things, but we have to prove to Santa that we should receive our wish list of gifts! In addition we learned the parts of a friendly letter.
English skills: We finished up Unit 2 by taking the assessments. We are doing Christmas Around the World during English time for the rest of the semester! This week we traveled to the United States and Liberia.
