Dear Crossroads Parents,
Happy October! What a great fundraiser we had last month. Our students and staff really enjoyed it. It was nice to see everyone committed to achieving our goal. A huge thank you to the students and families for helping our PTA raise the funds. One area the fundraiser is going to help out with is to upgrade our playground. Those upgrades are currently in the works. The funding also helps with covering the rest of the PTA yearly budget.
Currently we are working on planning our Veterans Day celebration. This is one of our amazing events we do to help honor those who serve. I am super proud of our school community and know the Veterans who attend love coming to our school and brag about our event. Attached below is our Veterans Day invite. We are sending it home as a hard copy as well, but wanted you to have access to it electronically. Please keep an eye out for those to come home very soon.
Also, if you are connected to a local restaurant (we are looking for food donations to feed our Veterans) or if you are interested in helping out in another way please contact Katie at kathrynvanderploeg@wsdr4.org if you know of any or can help out.
Thanks to all who came out to our movie night! I’m glad we were able to dodge the weather and could enjoy a movie together. This month our community events will be STEM Night on Thursday, October 3, from 5-7 pm and our PTA Trunk or Treat night on Friday, October 18, from 6-8 PM. We would love to see you attend!
I hope you all have a wonderful October and enjoy the fall weather!

Shout Out From Mrs. Henson
We want to give a big THANK YOU to our school community and families for their tremendous support of our Corgi Fun Run Fundraiser! We know this was a change for everyone, but the students loved earning the incentive rewards and participating in the run on our final day. Thank you to our PTA for their hard work and the time they put in meeting with the Boosterthon staff. Thank you to the parent volunteers that joined us the day of the run passing out water and cheering on our runners!!
We raised nearly $25,000 to apply toward playground upgrades and resources for students and staff!!! We've already begun ordering items for the playground!
Thank you and take care -
Mrs. Kristen Henson

From Nurse Maddie...
Dear Parents,
Great news! Crossroads has partnered with Smile Program, the mobile dentists to offer in-school dental care. Sign up your child today at www.myschooldentist.com.
Even better, dental care is usually at no cost to you. All insurance is accepted including
Medicaid and CHIP. For those without insurance, a low-cost, self-pay option is available.
Convenient and comfortable
Our in-school dental program saves you time and provides a safe and comfortable
place for your child to receive gentle dental care from licensed local professionals.
Dental care includes a complete dental exam, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride and sealants
when necessary, and in some cases, restorative care such as fillings.
Dental care for a healthy life
Children who see a dentist regularly may have fewer health issues like:
Early tooth loss caused by dental decay
Gum disease
Heart disease
Impaired speech development
Help keep your child healthy, in school and learning.
Simply go to www.myschooldentist.com and register before 10/22/19.
VETERANS DAY
If you have a Veteran that you would like to receive an invitation, please print and complete the information form and return it to Crossroads by October 11.
RED RIBBON WEEK
Fall Party and Costume Parade
- Doors will open at 1:30
- Parade begins at 2:00
- Parties will begin at 2:30 and end at 3:15
If you choose not to have your student participate, a supervised room will be available for reading or computer work during the parade and party. Please inform your child's teacher in advance of your request so all students can be supervised.
We ask that all students carefully dress for our costume parade and parade on Thursday, October 31.
Here are some suggested categories from which children could choose costumes:
- animal characters; bear, cat, dog
- historical characters; pioneer, Native Americans, mountain men, famous people
- storybook characters; Snow White, Tom Sawyer
- objects; robot, fruit, crayon box
- careers; doctor, ballerina, nurse, firefighter, police
- native dress; foreign country
- traditional Halloween characters; ghost, scarecrow, princesses
- cartoon characters; Batman, Spiderman, Spongebob
In an attempt to maintain a positive climate at our school, we are trying to avoid the following items:
- blood or weapons (plastic knives, guns, ninja sticks)
- clown costumes
- dying or changing the color of your child's hair
- low cut tops or tight fitting leotards unless other clothing is worn over the leotard
- masks that would be frightening to other children
- suggestive sexual dress or offensive dress
- high heels or skateboards
All costumes are to be brought to school in a sack or bag and not worn to school. At 1:30 p.m. students will be able to use the restroom to put on their costume. We thank you for choosing a school-appropriate costume for our child.
