MARCH 18, 2022
From the Office
Thank you to everyone who completed the 5 Essentials survey. We appreciate you providing feedback!
Track Season
Please remind your child to be on the lookout for information regarding Track if they are interested in joining the team. Coaches will typically hold an informational meeting at school a couple of weeks before the season begins. This year Track will begin on April 18th. All student-athletes are required to have an up to date sports physical on file with the School Nurse in order to participate in athletics.
Exploratory Choices for future 8th Graders
Each spring, current 7th graders are provided with an opportunity to request their 8th Grade Exploratory Courses, including the option to take a Full-year of Spanish. The Exploratory Department, consisting of Ms. Deyana Matt in Art, Mrs. Jessica Power in Family & Consumer Science, Mr. Jon Perry in Spanish, and Mrs. Patti Edwards in STEM will meet with all 7th graders in early May to provide students with details regarding each course. After the meeting, students and their parents will receive a survey to list all requests. In late May, the Exploratory department will work with our Main Office to honor as many student requests as possible and develop student schedules for next fall. Please feel free to reach out to any of the Exploratory teachers, should you have any questions regarding the course content.
8th Grade ISA Testing
Next week, 8th graders will complete the Illinois Science Assessment. Students will complete session 1 in the morning and session 2 in the afternoon on Tuesday, March 22nd. Session 3 will be in the morning on Wednesday, March 23rd. Please be sure that all 8th graders have a charged chromebook, charger and headphones with them for each day of testing. Please reach out to your student's science teacher with any questions regarding the assessment.
Trimester 2 Report Cards
Today, Trimester 2 Report Cards generated through OTUS were sent via email to parents and guardians of 6th & 7th grade students. March + Math = Pi
Do you know what March and Math have in common? Pi!
This past Monday, 3/14 is known as “Pi” Day. Pi is the Greek letter (ℼ) that is the ratio of the circumference of any circle to the diameter of that circle which is approximately 3.14.
Some Westfield math students and teachers celebrated appropriately by eating pie and doing math activities relating to pi.

'How-To' for Parents/Guardians:
REMINDERS
Social-Emotional Supports
If you feel that your child is struggling on a social-emotional level, please do not hesitate to contact our Social Worker, Mrs. Sheila Zagotta,
Monitoring Social Media
We believe that it is extremely important for parents & guardians of middle school-age children to frequently monitor their child's texting and social media usage and continuously review the expectations for appropriate use of electronics and social media accounts. We encourage parents and guardians to assist us by limiting or restricting access to texting and social media accounts if students are not using them appropriately.
As a school, we strive to promote and encourage positive and respectful interactions among students both at school and in the community. As part of our social and emotional learning program, we work daily with students to educate them on appropriate social skills, appropriate technology usage, responsible decision-making, respectful interactions, problem-solving techniques, and conflict resolution.
Academic Supports
As you know, teachers use a variety of resources and methods to support and challenge students to reach new academic heights, including opportunities for independent practice of skills and concepts. A few of these independent academic support tools that students have access to include IXL, MAP Accelerator, and PAPER. Students may find time to access these supports during class time, during Acceleration, in study hall, or at home.
