A MESSAGE FOR OUR SUPERINTENDENT

Dear WLCSD Parents:

There is no shortage of news and important information we want to share with you. With the announcement that high school sports will continue, to the important form for elementary parents to select their child’s Learning Path for the third trimester, to the amazing accomplishments of our students and staff –we have a lot to celebrate and offer to our children. Walled Lake Schools’ staff continues to serve our children in several learning models, and the support our community gives us is appreciated.

HIGH SCHOOL PARENTS:

Gov. Whitmer announced Michigan youth contact sports will be allowed to resume practices and games starting on Monday, Feb. 8 with certain safety procedures in place. Please contact your athlete’s coach for more specific information. WLCSD Athletic Department is also launching ESports for middle and high school students. Please see this important communication and complete this form. Lastly, this video is a glimpse of the Return to Limited In-Person learning at our middle and high schools.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PARENTS:

Please complete the Third Semester Learning Path Selection Form for the final semester which starts March 15. The form is due at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12. Letter about this process.

Prior to completing the form, please note:

  • Making a change of pathway may be disruptive to your child’s education.
  • Pacing from teacher to teacher may be different.
  • Class sizes in all pathways will probably increase.
  • The more families that choose a new pathway, the more teacher changes there will be, (although we will try to keep the changing of teachers at a minimum).
  • This is the last time elementary parents will have a chance to make a pathway change this year.
  • All parents must complete the learning path selection form.

CONGRATULATIONS & THANK YOU TO:

  • Danielle Bigi, current Hickory Woods Elementary kindergarten teacher, who will be the next principal at Dublin Elementary.
  • Sydney Urbaniak, WL Central 12 grade student and founder of The Student Pantry on receiving the Golden Apple award at the Board of Education meeting on Feb. 4.
  • Sarah Stockton, WL Western, was recently chosen as both MSVMA's (Michigan Schools Vocal Music Association) Teacher of the Year and President elect
  • The Walled Lake SBX (WLSBX - Boardercross/Snowboard Cross) for advancing to States next Friday Feb 12th at Alpine Valley
  • Angela Lentz and Jennifer Burdgick, Walnut Creek counselors, for presenting the first Wellness Wednesday webinar.

Kindergarten students need to be age 5 by September 1 of the school year in which you are enrolling. Possible Changes at Pleasant Lake Elementary

Shortly parents will be given the opportunity to change their current educational pathway (My Path, Our Path, In Person). The change will take effect in mid-March.

We can expect to see classroom and staffing changes take place in our Walled Lake Elementary Schools but I will not know how or if the changes will impact Pleasant Lake Elementary until those interested in a change have completed their survey.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions and/or concerns.
