Cougar Chronicles
September 30, 2022
Dear LSE Family,
Did you know every single student at LSE has a personal academic goal this year? Students have met with their teachers to review how they have started out the year in regard to their own baseline in regard to reading and math.
Each grade level has determined where they are going to have students set goals for themselves. Students are tracking their own data in data binders, conferencing with their teachers in regard to what their goals are and how they are doing in regard to reaching those goals.
Students are tracking things like attendance (days they are at school the whole day, days they are tardy, days they leave early)....why you might ask? Attendance makes a HUGE difference in learning - you cannot learn skills if you are not at school or if you are chronically late or leave early - attendance is also a life skill! Employers need employees to be at work when they are supposed to be at work and they must be at work on time!
Students are also tracking progress with Levels gained in different programs they use here at school (some are specific to each child). Students track progress in letters and sounds, math facts, NWEA growth, or maybe a personal goal set between a student and the teacher!
We now have a celebration wall where students can take selfies when they meet a goal and then email their parent/guardian the picture to share their success!
We already have students so excited to share goals they are reaching!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Tracy Sanders, Principal

Possible Tips to Use at Home!
Household Routines/Procedures
Developing household routines is way to establish predictability and show that as a family we all must do our share in taking care of our home. Household routines also teach responsibility, create a sense of competency, and develop a sense of belonging. Household routines teach a step-by-step way of completing or performing a task. These routines can be individualized according to the need and age of each child.
Below are some questions to guide in the development of various household routines:
● Morning routine:
- What time are kids to get up? By alarm or parent?
- What things need to be completed before breakfast? (ex.: shower, make bed)
- What things need to be completed after breakfast?
- What time is a child expected to be ready for school? (Virtual or onsite)
● Meal routine:
- Who will set the table? Rotating basis?
- Who will take dishes to sink, dishwasher?
- Who will unload the dishwasher? When?
●Bedtime routine:
- What time does bedtime routine begin?
- What is included in bedtime routine: Brush teeth, pajamas, set out clothes for next day, charge device, backpack ready???
- Once a child is in bed, can they read? Text? Listen to music? Watch TV?
- What time is a child expected to be in bed with lights out, ready to sleep?
- What is the expectation around electronics/TV/phone, etc.?
Sample Routine: Bedtime Routine
- Bedtime routine starts at 7:15
- Materials needed
- Clean pajamas
- Towel for bath/shower
- Time allotted (20 minutes)
- Use a timer
- Parent will knock on the door to signal time is up
- Behavior expectations
- Bathroom routine completed within expected timeframe (shower/bath, teeth brushed, etc.)
- Towel hung up; dirty clothes placed in hamper
- Set out clothes for school next day
- May read until lights out at 8:00

"Parenting Styles" Free Love and Logic online event!
Do you love your children and want to be an involved parent? Of course, you do! But not all parenting styles are alike. Some parenting styles make it harder to achieve the goals you have for yourself and your kids, while other parenting styles facilitate the process and allow us to enjoy our kids more in the present moment. If you want to get on the fast track to fun times and a brighter future for you and your kids, this free event will help you do it.
This event is on Parenting Styles and is brought to you by the leaders of Amen University and Love and Logic. These two companies have partnered to help you raise healthy, responsible, respectful children. Together they bring over 80 years of research, experience, and guidance that really works.
This event will introduce you to:
- The downsides of the most common parenting styles
- The two words that embody the essence of great parenting
- How helping your kids could actually be hurting them
- Why you should hope your kids make mistakes
- The one parenting style that makes everything easier!

Big Smiles dental clinic coming to LSE!
Dear Parent,
Great news! Our school has partnered with Smile Programs…the mobile dentists to offer in-school dental care. Sign up your child today at www.myschooldentist.com OR complete, sign, and return the dental form sent home with your child and have them return it to their teacher by Monday, October 10th. Big Smiles will be at LSE on Wednesday, November 16th.
Even better, dental care is usually at no cost to you. All insurance is accepted including Medicaid and CHIP. For those without insurance, a low cost self-pay option is available.
Convenient and comfortable
Our in-school dental program saves you time and provides a safe and comfortable place for your child to receive gentle dental care from licensed local professionals. Dental care includes a complete dental exam, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride and sealants when necessary, and in some cases, restorative care such as fillings.
Dental care for a healthy life
Children who see a dentist regularly may have fewer health issues like:
Early tooth loss due to dental decay
Gum disease
Heart disease
Impaired speech development
Help keep your child healthy, in school and learning.
To sign up, simply go to www.myschooldentist.com.
