Updates for the Week
Hello Wilkesboro families! We hope that you’ve enjoyed our long spring break. We are excited to return to school for the remaining 33 days of this school year! We have lots of work left to do, and we anticipate a great rest of the school year.
With 33 days left, we are carefully planning for end of year assessments and special events. NC guidelines require that these tests be taken in person at school by all students, so we’re sharing dates now so you can plan ahead. 3rd grade EOG tests will be May 13 and 16. 4th grade EOG tests will be May 14 and 20. 5th grade EOG tests will be May 17, 19, and 21. We will share more details about other events as they become available.
We want to thank you for your generous support of our playground fundraising campaign. We had many donations turned in last week, and we are off to a great start! We returned fundraising envelopes and receipts to students, and we hope that families will continue to seek donations. Every donation helps! Friday is our next turn in date. As a reminder, students who turn in ANY donation will receive a “WE CAN DO HARD THINGS!” silicone armband and those who raise $30 or more will get a t-shirt. Please note that online donors can contribute directly to benefit your child, just please make sure the donor includes your child’s name in the comments section. Remote learners can turn in donations to our office at any time. https://www.smore.com/awcey-we-play-to-learn
Tomorrow, our carline will begin at 7:30, and buses will run their usual routes. Please make sure that your child charges their Chromebook today and brings it back to school tomorrow in its case. As we return to school, we want to remind you about our important safety protocols. Masks are required for ALL people at ALL times when on school property, and all students must have their signed attestation forms out for getting on the bus and arriving by car at school. If someone in your household has symptoms or has been tested for Covid-19, please make sure to keep your child at home until test results are back.
You can learn more about what’s happening in your child’s classroom by clicking on your child's teacher below.
We look forward to a great week. It’s been a year of challenges and triumphs, and we’re grateful for your patience, support, and encouragement from home. Thank you and have a great evening!

About Attendance
Parents, please note that since we have moved to Plan A, students who are participating in Plan A will be marked PRESENT or ABSENT. If your child is not in school, you will need to send in absence notes as usual and it will be coded as excused or unexcused. If your child is officially quarantined or excluded by the health department and/or the school nurse, your teacher will offer remote learning. If your child participates and submits work each day, the student will be marked PRESENT OFF SITE (1R). If not, the quarantine absences would be excused. If your child needs to be out, we will work with you to make sure your child doesn't get behind.
For students who continue with remote learning note that in order for us to count your child in attendance off site, we must on a daily basis verify that the student is engaged (completing and submitting assignments), on pace (participating in the virtual classroom), or receiving academic/emotional support (directly from the teacher). If this isn't happening, your child will be counted absent. Please make sure that your child is submitting work and that you are communicating with the teacher daily. Thanks in advance for your help!
