Pittsfield Penguin News
November 2019
Greetings Pittsfield CommUNITY,
We are in the midst of fall and lo and behold, we have snow already! Be sure to bundle up, drive safely and stay warm. As we head into November, I’m reminded of gratitude and being thankful. We are so grateful for the students, families, faculty and commUNITY!
Our amazing PTO has organized many events that bring our community together. KUDOS to our PTO for making the annual FALL FUN FEST a fantastic event! During the FALL FUN FEST, we had a Scholastic Book Fair thanks to our PTO volunteers. Also, with everyone’s generous support,we were able to raise nearly $12,000 during our FUN RUN FUNdraiser! We would not be able to accomplish this without your gracious hearts.
Here are some amazing events to look forward to during the month of November:

Disability Awareness Workshop (DAW)
Every year, fourth grade students have the opportunity to participate in DAW sponsored by the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living. The purpose of DAW is for the students to experience what life is like for people with disabilities.
No School
There is no school 11/27-11/29 for students and staff due to the Thanksgiving Break. School will resume on Monday, 12/2.
Throughout the school year, we conduct safety drills. We practice severe weather, lock down, and fire drills. There are district protocols that we must follow in times of a drill and when we are faced with real life events. During these times, our priority is to usher students, staff and visitors, to predetermined shelter/safety areas and remain until the all clear has been issued. Already this school year, we have had fire drills and we will be practicing severe weather and lockdown drills. In instances where our practice becomes a reality, we will make every attempt after the all clear has been made to follow up with families regarding the safety of students.
Last week we turned our clocks back for Daylight Savings time. With the change in time please pay extra attention on the roads both while driving and as a pedestrian. Studies have shown an increase in traffic accidents in the days and weeks immediately after time changes. In the fall the increased risk is most common around dusk, however the shift in sleep schedule can cause fatigue. Check out the A2 Be Safe guide for walking, biking, and driving tips.
As a reminder, we have a 2019-2020 Pittsfield Family Events Calendar that has our scheduled activities for the school year. Click here.
We are SO thankful for each and every one of you! At any time, please feel free to contact me through the office, via phone at 734.997.1218, or by email at alston@aaps.k12.mi.us. May we live our mission each and every day "achievement for ALL in a safe, nurturing setting; honoring our diversity!"
Wishing you the very best,

Saludos Pittsfield CommUNITY,
Reportes a casa
