A NOTE FROM MRS. RAWLINS
Dear Sloan Creek Families,
Thank you for your kindness and generosity this week. We will continue to collect food donations in honor of Alis Brantl, winter clothes for ACO, unwanted Halloween candy for Orchestra, toys for Student Council, and letters for the Lovejoy Letter Campaign through tomorrow, Friday 11/10.
Students do not have school Thursday - Friday, November 16 - 17. The following week, November 20 - 24, is Thanksgiving Break for students and staff.
We look forward to a fantastic Friday at SCIS tomorrow as we get to celebrate Veterans in the morning and finish the day with Leopard Friday and football at LHS! We are so thankful for our SCIS families. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday with family and friends.

TOY DRIVE
FROM SCIS STUDENT COUNCIL:
We're having a toy drive! From now until Friday, December 8, you may bring NEW and UNWRAPPED toys to donate. These donations will also go to ACO to benefit local families who are unable to afford to provide gifts for their children this holiday season. Toys may be dropped off to either Miss Heth or Ms. Wisdom.
WEAR A HAT WEDNESDAYS
FROM SCIS STUDENT COUNCIL:
For the next three Wednesdays, if you bring $1, you may wear a hat to school. You will receive a wristband to show that you have paid. Those without a wristband will not be permitted to wear a hat. Part of our proceeds will go towards the ACO to help local families in need.
WHAT ARE WE LEARNING?
NEW FORMAT COMING SOON...
Based on your feedback, we will roll out a new format of 'What Are We Learning?" for second semester! In addition, we are beginning the work of collaborating within SCIS and across campuses for consistency and ease of use in Google Classroom.
SCIS GRADING GUIDELINES
✔️ At least 6-8 Minor Grades Per Quarter (40%)
✔️ 1-2 Major Grades Per Quarter (60%)
✔️ Retake Opportunities:
- Major Grades Only
- Earn up to 85%
- May be taken for any score below 85%
- Must be taken for any score below 70%
RED LEOPARD TICKET DRAWINGS
Each Friday we will draw 10 tickets from each grade level on morning announcements. Those students will visit the LEOPARD STORE to choose a prize!
NEW: GREEN TICKET DRAWINGS!
Teachers and staff are giving out GREEN tickets to students 'caught' making a positive impact on our environment by recycling, picking up trash, etc...
Each Friday we will draw 2 green tickets from each grade level on morning announcements. Those students will visit the LEOPARD STORE to choose a prize!
LEOPARD PRIDE
Our students continue to discuss and understand the school-wide expectations for learning and behavior. They learned about having PRIDE in themselves, their school, and in everything they do!

ATTENDANCE MATTERS
HELPFUL TIPS:
- When communicating an absence please include the first and last name of your student in the email as well as the reason for the absence.
- Automated emails/phone calls are placed at the end of the day to notify parents of any absences that have not been communicated.
- Allow time for your student's attendance to be updated. I will always respond to your email indicating attendance has been updated. Thank you for your patience.
- Who to email - all attendance matters need to go to Julie Boardman, julie_boardman@lovejoyisd.net or scis_attendance@lovejoyisd.net (they both go to Julie)
NEWS FROM OUR PTO
We would love to give a Thanksgiving treat to every teacher and staff member at Sloan Creek! To make this possible, we kindly ask for your assistance! Nothing Bundt Cakes in Allen is giving us 10% off when we purchase a cake now through Monday, November 13th. If you would like to purchase a cake for a staff member, please follow these easy steps!

- Call or pop in to the store, ask for the lead manager and tell them you're with "Sloan Creek PTO" to pre-order an 8in cake.
All cakes will be delivered to Sloan Creek on Wednesday, November 15th, just in time for the break!
DISTRICT UPDATES
REMINDER: LHS is also hosting Leopard Friday and a playoff football game Friday evening. On-site parking will be very limited. Satellite parking with shuttle buses will be available from Grace Church, Willow Springs Middle School, and Hart Elementary.
LOVEJOY CHILDREN'S CHOIR AUDITIONS
The Lovejoy Children's Choir is back for their 9th season! This choir is designed to serve the needs of our district’s 4th, 5th and 6th grade students who are committed to a musically exceptional experience. We would like to invite your student to audition for our Lovejoy Children's Choir!

MCCU DEBIT CARD DESIGN CONTEST
Lovejoy ISD recently entered into a partnership with My Community Credit Union. This partnership is intended to enhance student opportunities in the areas of financial literacy and provide hands-on learning experiences for future careers related to finance. An MCCU branch is scheduled to open at Lovejoy High School in the fall of 2024.
On Friday, October 27th, MCCU kicked off their Debit Card Design Contest. The contest is open to all Lovejoy ISD students. Three debit card design winners will be selected representing grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. The winners will have their designs on our Lovejoy Leopard MCCU Debit Cards and will receive a $100 gift card!
Content Rules:
Must be an original image/design/artwork.
Participants may submit up to 2 designs.
Parent consent is required.
Submissions are due to marketing@mccu.coop by midnight on January 26.
Winners will be announced on March 1.
Final Card Size: 2-1/8 by 3-3/8
