Grandparents day

This year Grandparents Day will only include the grandparents of our kindergarten students. The reason grandparents were included for both kindergarten and first grade in the past was due to the Kindergarten and First Grade spring program rehearsal being held during the day at Ekstrand, which allowed grandparents in these respective grades to attend. Since we no longer hold concerts at Ekstrand we plan to make this adjustment to better accommodate the Grandparents coming into our building. Grandparents Day for Kindergarten students will be held on Wednesday April 24th. More information will be shared out as the date gets closer.

Junior Achievement

Junior Achievement Fundraiser

On Friday February 8th and Friday February 15th students will be able to purchase bubble gum for $0.50 to raise money for Junior Achievement. Students will be able to purchase the gum at booths located in the media center as well as outside the music classroom. We extended this to include an additional day due to having no school the day prior to February 8th.

Junior Achievement Volunteer Opportunity

Find out how you can help teachers and students at Ekstrand Elementary by volunteering with JA! Contact Stacy at stacy.voelliger@ja.org or visit our website – www.jaheartland.org.

Each grade level right now is working on not only recognizing feelings on others, but how to recognize their own feelings. We can all recognize another person's feelings by looking at their face, body, and the situation, but the new question is: How do you recognize your own feelings? The students are learning that their bodies provide them with physical clues to how they feel. For example: is their heart beating really fast, do they feel hot, are their hands sweating or is their stomach feeling yucky? These are the types of clues the students are learning to recognize. Once they have a good grasp on understanding this, then they are able to name their feeling and work their way into calming their feelings down.
