KES Update

August 24, 2022

Welcome back!!! It's wonderful to have most of our Hornets here at school. By the end of this week, we will have ALL students preschool-5th grade here! It has been exciting to see everyone back from summer break, ready to learn. A few important thank yous for me to include here...to our hard-working custodial staff, supportive PTA, dedicated teachers and support staff who all put so much time and effort into making the start of the school year a success! We have been getting routines established, building relationships, and enjoying time together as a Hornet family.

  • KLSD (K-12) will run a series of safety drills next week. These are only drills. We will be sure to communicate that clearly to the students. Prior to each drill, teachers will discuss what we are doing and why, as well assure the students that we are practicing situations so that we can keep each other safe. We will perform a lockdown and barricade drill, a mass evacuation drill, and a situational drill or a combination of both (barricade or evacuate). You can help by talking to your children at home about the importance of safety drills at school and reminding them not to worry, as we are just practicing! Thanks!

  • If your child is a car rider, please refer to the traffic map shared below for a reminder of the procedure. Thank you for your patience, as we get everyone unloaded/loaded safely and in a timely manner. Please do not get out of your cars in the line so that we can keep it moving. Thanks for your help!

Big picture

Introducing Mr. Bastian!

Hello! I am Joey! I graduated from Perry High school and later went on to purse a PK-3 license from Cleveland State University. I was then hired by Perry as a Title 1 reading tutor and later moved to a 1st grade teacher. I love to spend time with my family including my fiance Ashley, my 2 year old son Brooks and my dog Brody! We have a big year ahead of us as we are getting married at the end of September and then moving into our new house shortly after! In the little free time that I have, I love to play golf, basketball, and watch the Browns on Sundays. I am so excited to be a part of the KES family and meet everyone as the year begins!

Introducing Ms. Folk!

Hi! I'm Abby Folk. I grew up in Concord, Ohio and attended Lake Catholic for high school. From there I went to Miami University where I found my passion for education and studied Middle Childhood Education. At Miami I was the chapter president of a national mentoring organization called College Mentors for Kids which is still near and dear to my heart today. Last year was my first year of teaching and I spent it at Memorial Middle School teaching 7th and 8th grade ELA and reading intervention. When I am not teaching I love to spend time with my family on Kelleys Island and go on hikes with my dog Summer. I could not be more excited to be joining the Kirtland Elementary School team and continue my love for teaching in 4th grade!

PTA News

Thank you to our PTA for supporting the Back to School Ice Cream Social! We had so much fun and the ice cream was a huge hit! Thank you to the Kirtland Creamery for donating ice cream to our Hornets. PTA volunteers have also been in the building to help with stocking the lounge with goodies for our teachers, gussying up the staff bathrooms, and helping assist students to their classrooms. We will also begin to work on the plans for our KES Walk-a-Thon (Sept. 30). Stay tuned for more information!
