Interim Principal's Office - We Need Your Help!
I would like to use this space to reach out to you and ask for a little help. FSS will soon start to get ready for our Starstruck presentation scheduled for March 3. This year we're hoping to have the program outdoors on our playground. Since it will be in the evening, we will need lighting to ensure that our parents can adequately see the students' performance. If any of you have lighting that you feel would work, or if you know of how we can secure the light units, please give the office a call. Thank you for your help with this request!
Have a great weekend!

"College Knowledge" Focus School of the Week - Penn State University
"College Knowledge" Focus School of the Week - Penn St. University
“College Knowledge” Fun Facts of the Week - Penn St. University Nittany Lions: Penn State is a public state-related land-grant research university with campuses and facilities throughout Pennsylvania. Founded in 1855 as the Farmers' High School of Pennsylvania, Penn State became the state's only land-grant university in 1863. Today, Penn State is a major research university which conducts teaching, research, and public service. Its instructional mission includes undergraduate, graduate, professional and continuing education offered through resident instruction and online delivery. Mrs. Pellegrino is a Penn St. graduate! Click here to see the Penn St. website.
Monday - Its University Park campus, which is the largest of the 19 Penn St. campuses, has an enrollment of more than 46,800 graduate and undergraduate students, making it one of the largest universities in the United States. Check out this 5 minute video on Penn St. and its University Park campus.
Tuesday - In addition to its land-grant designation, it also participates in the sea-grant, space-grant, and sun-grant research consortia; it is one of only four such universities (along with Cornell University, Oregon State University, and University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa). These designations signal a university’s ability to receive federal funding for research projects that benefit the larger community. This quadruple honor means that Penn State is deeply engaged in solving some of the most pressing challenges we face as a society. To watch an interesting 5-minute video of turfgrass science at Penn State, click here.
Wednesday - Before launching what is now known as Ben & Jerry’s, the dynamic duo of Ben Cohen & Jerry Greenfield took an ice cream-making class at Penn State’s Creamery in 1977. Greenfield and Cohen opened their first ice cream store in Vermont, and the brand quickly took off thereafter. Even with its national following, it still doesn’t beat the Penn State Creamery’s classic ice cream. Click here to watch an 8 minute video on how they get their ice cream from cow to cone!
Thursday - Everyone on campus knows about Penn State’s intense dance marathon. For 46 hours straight, students dance throughout the THON weekend to fundraise for pediatric cancer. Click here to watch a 4-minute recap of the 2020 THON.
Friday - Saquon Barkley is an NFL running back for the New York Giants. He played college football at Penn State for three seasons where totaled 5,557 all-purpose yards in his three-year collegiate career. During Barkley's three-year collegiate career, he broke and set numerous Penn State records including most rushing touchdowns in a career, most rushing yards by a freshman and sophomore as well as most total yards in a single game. Barkley was drafted with the second overall pick by the Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft. As a rookie during the 2018 NFL season Barkley set numerous league and franchise records while on his way to a 1,300+ yard rushing season and a Pro Bowl nod. In 2018, Barkley set multiple league records, tying Randy Moss for most 50+ yard touchdowns from scrimmage in a season, along with recording the most receptions (91) by a rookie running back. Barkley also set three franchise records for rookies: most rushing touchdowns (11), most rushing yards (1,307), and most total touchdowns (15). Barkley was also awarded AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Check out this 3-minute college highlight video reel!

Online Roadrunner Store Open for Business!
WHAT IS THE ROADRUNNER STORE?
The Roadrunner Store is the place where kids can "shop" for items to purchase with the BEEP cards they earn here at FSS for Being Safe, Exercising Responsibility, Engaging in Learning, & Practicing Kindness!
Typically, the kids would be able to walk through our Roadrunner Store once a month and shop in person. For COVID safety reasons, we have set up a virtual on-line store. The items currently for sale are shown below. To place an order, kids simply need to print the order form attached below, mark the item(s) they are choosing, and turn their form into their teacher or the school office. The next turn in day of this school year will be Friday, January 19th! Deliveries will come the following school week!
