Paramecium
What are they and where?
What is a Paramecium?
Paramecium are single celled organisms that are usually inside animals and many soils. You can also find them in lakes, puddles, streams and other bodies of water. Parameciums are so small you have to use a microscope to see them. Like other cells, parameciums have little hairs to move around. parameciums have to types of nuclei. A large nucleus is called a macronucleus and a small nucleus I called a micro nucleus.
Predator or Prey?
Paramecium are considered famous because of their predaror-prey. relationship with the didinum. Also because if they encounter a predator, they are able to spin 360 degrees to find an escape route.
Micro vs Macro
The paramecium have two types of nuclei, the macro nucleus and the micro nucleus. The difference between them is that the micro nucleus is much smaller than the macro nucleus. They also control different parts of the organism.
Cilia
Cilia is like the little hairs on your head to help the paramecium move around. They move in a curvy/wavy motion and can even help the organism turn and spin.
What goes in, must come out...right?
Paramecium have a small hole in their body that carries the food out. This "hole" is called a anal pore. Much like our body system where we eat food and it comes out later, paramecium are the same way.
