HIGH SCHOOL
Things are really hopping around Pine Tree High School as the first six weeks of school comes to a close and major activities on campus lie ahead.
Juniors will be taking the PSAT on October 13. This will involve several hundred students and give them an indication of how well they can score on the actual SAT test.
Senior night will be held on Friday, October 15, as the Pirates play Texas High in a district match. Students from football, trainers, band, color guard, Precision, cheer, BUCS, yearbook and stadium audio visual will be recognized for their years at PTHS. Each student will be escorted by special people in their lives. This is always a special night during the fall. These seniors have given countless hours to their school and are honored for their time in a special way.
Homecoming is scheduled for Friday, October 29 against Mount Pleasant, and students have begun to complete forms to compete for homecoming court. Voting will occur over the next couple of weeks. The court will be honored at pre-game festivities on the night of the game.
Class meetings are also coming up with the freshmen class scheduled to have a session with administrators on October 6.
Picture retakes for all students, freshmen through seniors, will be held October 13 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the theatre lobby. This is the last day for students to take a picture that will be featured in the yearbook.
Work on the fall production, The Addams Family, is progressing. Theatre teacher Lisa Wright and her staff have the play on schedule to be presented in early November. This massive undertaking involves a large number of students, but one that is always a favorite production. Students are building sets, practicing singing and dancing as well as blocking out the production which will take place over three or four days.
The Pirates will take on the Nacogdoches Dragons in district year this Friday. Volleyball is in the midst of a district title chase, and cross country, both boys and girls, has performed well in meets thus far this year. Basketball is on the horizon with fall baseball, tennis and golf enjoying success in events over the past few weeks.
The weather is starting to cool, but the temperature is as hot as ever in the high school as students, faculty and staff face daily assignments and continue to meet with success as we go from day to day.
PINE TREE JUNIOR HIGH

PARKWAY ELEMENTARY
International Dot Day
On September 16, Parkway Elementary GT students celebrated International Dot Day. We read Peter Reynold’s book, The Dot, and talked about having the courage to celebrate our creativity “make our mark”! We also looked at some beautiful artists like Seurat who use pointillism as a painting technique. Each student received an 8x10 canvas to bravely create their mark using only dots. 1st and 2nd grade was challenged to create a dot pattern. The 3rd and 4th graders were challenged to create an image using only dots.
The Five Food Groups of Nutrition
On Friday September 24th in PE class, our 1st and 2nd graders learned some nutrition facts. Ms. Erica Davis from the East Texas Food Bank in Tyler came to discuss the five food groups, and what portions they need for each meal. The five food groups are fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and dairy. Our Pack members were showing such great respect that Ms. Erica gave them all a surprise. They each recevied a stress ball that represented a fruit or vegetable.
Grandparent’s Week
Our students celebrated Grandparents Week by inviting them to breakfast. Each grade level had a certain day to bring their grandparents to have breakfast with them. It was so amazing seeing all the smiling faces enjoying each other. Our grandparents are truly special.
BIRCH ELEMENTARY

At the Birch First campus, dreams really do come true! On September 30th, countless students, parents, former students, faculty members, district leaders and community members attended the televised ribbon cutting ceremony of Big Blue. This event was a true representation that WE believe in Birch!
