Extra Credit: Explore Educator Resources to help you chart your myON Implementation.
Yes! Extra Credit should always be come first! The materials in this newsletter are located in myON Educator Resources. If prompted when opening the following materials, please make sure that you've logged into Educator Resources FIRST in a separate tab.
To access, log into your myON account, click on the "hamburger" icon at the bottom-right of your screen, and then click on the Educator Resources tab. See picture below.
Ed. Resources has great videos and PDFs for educators, students, and families. Take advantage of the templates, family literacy night materials, publisher materials, and reading campaign resources. Also, be sure to check out Spotlight Books, Project-Based Learning kits, and the myON Book of the Day calendar. If you want to learn how to create guided reading groups and projects - you can do it here!!
1. Watch a short video with your students on the big screen. Have the popcorn ready!
Depending on which grade you're working with, select one of the following short videos to get your kiddos excited about myON. These videos walk your students through the initial interest inventory and Lexile placement test. It also provides a quick overview of features including the Recommended Wall and how to search the myON library. Not only will this enable your students to easily navigate myON but you'll feel like a pro in no time.
* PK-1 Getting Started Video (start at 33 sec. mark)
Because students access myON through Clever, you may fast-forward this video and start at the 33 second mark.
* Getting Started for Elementary Students (start at the 21 sec. mark)
* Getting Started for Older Students (start at the 20 sec. mark to skip log in process)
2. Have students log in to take intest inventory and initial Lexile Placement exam.
Tips:
- Distribute Clever login cards and/or Clever badges for fast and easy access to myON. Login cards can be found in Ed. Resources under the Reading Campaign tab and in Templates.
- Provide students approximately 30 minutes to complete their initial assessments. After this, they will have continued access to the myON library.
- Have students wear headphones for the initial log in. Students that test out of the Lexile placement test early will have access to the library. The audio support may cause distractions for students that spend more time on their test. :)
- Tip: Remember that the test will end after 25 minutes or if a student misses 4 questions in a row.
