A Christmas Carol
The book A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens starts off by telling us about the grumpy main character, Ebeneezor Scrooge, I found the fact he was unlikeable until the end when he made a special place in his heart for Christmas enjoyable as I think many others would! Throughout the beginning of the book i found that Scrooge was a very unlikeable character, he was so full of hatred for Christmas. He had wanted nothing to do with it. Ever since he had no one in his life; His fiancée Belle had left him when he was younger and later on in life his dear sister Phan had died along with his good friend and business partner, Marley. Later on in the book Scrooge is visited by 4 ghosts, and yes everyone has heard of the 3 ghosts of Christmas but a fourth? That fourth ghost was Jacob Marley's ghost. He was actually the first ghost to appear and warn him that the others were coming to help him change his ways. The second ghost was the ghost of Christmas past, the third was the ghost of Christmas present and the fourth and final ghost was the ghost of Christmas yet to come. The ghost of Christmas yet to come left a mark on Scrooge, Scrooge knew the usual drill of how the ghost thing worked at that point in the book so he was dumbfounded when the ghost never talked. This ghost taught him the most important lesson of what will happen if he doesn't change. That kind of leads me into what i was going to say next and why i kept reading. The reason I kept reading was to see if Scrooge would change. I was thinking almost the entire book, Will he make a change for the better? Will he stay the same? What will happen next? In conclusion I really enjoyed reading this book because of the element of surprise and mystery of having the story in Scrooge's perspective added. I think it added those elements because you never knew if he was going to change or not and you also got to read about the 4 ghosts that visited Scrooge. Upon the arrival of the ghost of Christmas yet to come's arrival Scrooge had started to show he does think is so bad after all.
