SMS Clothing on sale
The clothing order can come straight to your own address rather than coming to school, and there are a couple of discounts that you can take advantage of if you order before March 22nd, and if the total is over $75.00.
There is also a March Madness promotion going on right now with an added discount! There is a new promo code 15MARCH for 15% off any order, valid until March 31. There is no minimum dollar amount for this code. Only 1 promo code may be applied per order; depending on the total value of the order, STONY10 may still be the better option.
Have you already made an online order? Great! Show us a proof of purchase (you can either email it or bring it to the school office) and your child will be entered to win a free SMS backpack, tshirt or ball cap! Draw will be made on March 27th.
If you have any questions, please contact gshumsky@hsd.ca.
Report Cards
A Friendly Reminder!
If you have forgotten your Parent Portal username or password, please contact the school or email hfriesen@hsd.ca to ask for your information to be reset.
Using the Parent Portal is a great way to keep up to date with your child's progress at school (attendance, fee account, updating addresses, report cards, etc.) and if you have not yet signed up for this valuable online tool and need some direction, please feel free to let us know and we will be happy to help you!
Instructions for the Parent Portal can be downloaded (link below).
Celebration of Learning
Tuesday, March 24th
All parents are welcome to attend with their students on a "come and go" basis from 4:30-6:30 p.m. (no appointments needed). The student will show you what they have been doing in class, and you will also have an opportunity to speak to the teacher.
Out of respect to all the parents and students in the room, please keep your conversation brief and positive. If you feel you need a more in-depth conversation, please let the teacher know and a time can be arranged to meet.
If your student takes Art in Grade 7 or 8, there will also be a Celebration of the Arts on this night, showcasing the art projects your child has been involved in (indigenous art, digital art, visual art and drama).
We look forward to you coming to our Celebration of Learning and Celebration of the Arts!
Grade 9 Registration at Steinbach Regional Secondary School
The Grade 8 Parent Orientation Evening at the SRSS is also on Thursday, March 12th from 6:00-8:30 pm. The evening will consist of a 30-minute presentation and an Open House. Guided tours will also be available and teachers and counselors will be present to answer specific questions.
Registration packages for the SRSS will be sent home with students on Monday, March 16th and are due back at school by Friday, March 20th. Please do not pay the registration fees at this time. SRSS will collect those in the fall.
Registration deadline is March 27th, 2020.
If you have any questions or require assistance, you can contact Charlotte Heinrichs (cheinrichs@hsd.ca) or Louella Kroeker (lkroeker@hsd.ca) at the SRSS, 204-326-6426.
Demographic Changes
This is a great time for everyone (Grade 5's to 7's) to have a look at their demographics (if you haven't done so recently) and make sure that we have the correct information on your child's student file. Please make sure your address, email addresses, phone numbers, emergency contacts, are all up to date, so that we can communicate with you. Please send a note or email to the office (hfriesen@hsd.ca or amonkman@hsd.ca). You can also call the office with any updates!
Thank you for taking the time to do this!
Stonybrook Middle School Yearbook!
Would you like to be a sponsor?
We are excited to see what Mr. Wiebe and his Yearbook Crew have in store for us. To offset the cost of the yearbooks for our students, we would love to have some business sponsors. If you are interested in making a donation to help pay for the publishing of the book, please contact Mrs. Friesen (hfriesen@hsd.ca) in the office or Mr. Wiebe (ewiebe@hsd.ca). The donation would be recognized in the Yearbook under the title "Patrons", with your business name and logo.
If you choose to become a sponsor, please forward your donation to the school no later than the end of April, 2020. Thanks for your participation!
Looking Back on February...
Concert Band Festival
I Love to Read Month
Reading is a skill that all students will use daily throughout their life. Here at SMS we try to support this skill in a variety of ways, including promoting a love of reading for each of our students.
February was "I Love to Read" Month, and to encourage and celebrate reading, we had different events planned throughout the month. Students participated in a Bookmark Challenge, Grade 5's ad 6's had a spelling bee, and every Friday the principals had "First Chapter Fridays" where they read the first chapter of a book over the PA system. We also had a focus on learning about Canadian authors, and had a "reading Canadian day". We ended the month off with a Book Character Dress Up Day.
Reading is alive and well at SMS!
