Ms. Chilcote's Class
6th grade Language Arts
Field trip
The sixth grade will be going on a field trip Nov. 24th. Permission slips were sent home. They are due back by Oct 29th. Your child is to bring a bagged lunch. There is space on the form to indicate if you need the cafeteria to provide a lunch.
This field trip is exciting as we are heading to UNCW and see plays on many famous authors like: Edgar Allan Poe and Washington Irving.
Binders
Please remember that sixth grade students are to have two 2" binders to put their core classes in. I will be doing binder checks therefore they will need: pencil pouch, highlighter, pencil, hand held sharpener, divider(s) and paper.
Mastery Class
Students researched anti-bullying and peer pressure. They created posters that are now showcased in the sixth grade hall.
Annotation
Students learned how to annotate and UNRAVEL to discuss and use text evidence. Students learned sentence starters to have authentic conversations.
Exit tickets
Students used post-its to write down what they learned, a question about the lesson and a rating for the lesson.
Independent Reading
Reading Responses/40 Book Challenge
Students should be reading nightly for 20-30 mins. I will assign reading responses and students will write the responses in their journals. Students are to keep up with their reading via their reading list, kept in their binder.
