All About Your Librarian
My name is Jennifer De Waelsche and I'm originally from a small town called Canyon just south of Amarillo in the Texas Panhandle. I moved to San Antonio for my first library job five years ago. I was the librarian at Rogers Middle School from 2011 to 2016. Before coming to San Antonio, I taught speech, debate, oral interpretation, yearbook, and English at Hereford High School. I'm happy to be at Burbank because I really enjoy the high school level and am excited about the new opportunities here.
I've been married for two years to Matt De Waelsche who is a librarian/archivist at the San Antonio Public Library. He and I are both avid Scrabble players who play in competitive tournaments. We also both love to ride roller coasters. I've ridden 181 different roller coasters so far. I am a musician - playing clarinet in a local community band and love to read. I have a strong technology background and dabble in some graphic design creating flyers and programs for local groups.
Videos to Enhance Your Curriculum
SAISD has provided access to a new curriculum video service called Learn 360. You can search for short videos based on subject or even by TEKS standards. Most of the videos are published within the last 10 years though a few may be older. You can use these videos any time with your classes as long as it is supporting the curriculum. Check with Mrs. De Waelsche for the login information.
Movies in the Classroom
Remember that if you intend to show any movie in your classroom, it must be tied to the curriculum and you must first get permission from Mr. Elizondo using form E6-A. This applies to any movie whether it is checked out from the library or a personal copy. Movies with a rating of PG-13 must have parent permission and no R or X rated movies may be shown.

Book Review: The Boys Who Challenged Hitler
I brought the book home over the weekend to read. It's the story of some young boys (think 9th graders) in Denmark that were not happy about the country's concession to host the Germans during World War II. A group of them banded together and started wreaking havoc on the German soldiers in their town. They stole weapons, vandalized their cars, and destroyed materials crucial to the Germans. Though they eventually were caught, they caused a great deal of damage and spurned others in their country to start standing up to the Germans as well.
The book is a fairly short and easy read but packs a lot of information. The boys definitely show the spirit of being risk-takers and you wonder how they got away with as much as they did for as long as they did. It's an interesting historical read about a relatively unknown part of World War II that will keep you intrigued and wondering if they all survived.
