A Message From the Principal-Mrs. Patrick
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year at HHS! We are off to a great start and are excited about all of the opportunities available. At the start of the school year, students are reenergized and the majority start the year with hope and a positive outlook that they can succeed. This mentality is something we need to continue to foster with students so that they believe in themselves and continue to see that they are capable of excellence.
This year, we are implementing a variety of programs that will provide your child with the necessary resources to be successful; all they need to do is take advantage of the opportunities. As parents, you can help us with this by checking your child’s grades regularly in Skyward. Teachers should be updating grades at least once per week. This gives you the opportunity to know up to date progress in each class. Additionally, encourage your child to take advantage of the resources below:
- Success Period- Academic Assistance:
With the high school’s new schedule, there is a 1-hour Success Period built in every Wednesday. On designated Wednesdays, this time will be used for college and career planning. The other Wednesdays will be used for academic assistance. Students who need to get extra help from a teacher or need to make up a test / quiz can do this during the academic assistance time. Encourage your child to get help during this time by having their teacher sign them a pass in their Student Handbook.
- After School Tutoring:
HHS will begin after school tutoring on Monday and Wednesday after school beginning in just a few short weeks. For this tutoring, bus service is provided to transport students home. Tutoring runs after school until 4 pm. Please have your child visit the Media Center to sign up and attend.
- Many of our teachers also offer morning help sessions for students who would like to come in and get extra help prior to a test. Many teachers are also willing to make time before or after school to help students individually- if they simply ask for help.

Notes from the Nurse
If your student might require over the counter medications such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen during the school day, the school no longer has available stock. You must supply the nurse with this medication for your child. You are required to fill out a form and the nurse will label your students medication so that they can take it when needed during the school day.
Any senior who has not received the Meningitis booster immunization that is required, please do so ASAP. Please provide Mrs. O’Brien with proper documentation.
Harlem Wizards Come to HHS
If you aren't a faculty member, come and watch as our Brickie Staff takes on the talented Wizards on September 28 in the Hobart High School gym. Please contact Ashley Slater slaterclass@hobart.k12.in.us or Valentine Torres vtorres@hobart.k12.in.us to volunteer or get additional information.
