EV Staff News
December 18, 2017
I wish you a very peaceful and restful winter break. We work hard everyday to ensure that our students are learning, feeling safe and engaged at school. Because of you our curriculum and assessments are aligned. Because of you students are reading and writing at higher levels of comprehension. Because of you we can better understand a students learning needs. Because of you our students feel safe in their classrooms. Because of you they want to come to school everyday!
Have a wonderful holiday and a very Happy New Year!!

Bridges Information
Math Implementation
Message from Karen Strong:
Our district focus for Bridges implementation for this year is daily Number Corner and the daily Bridges lesson (Problems and Investigations). While there are other critical components of the program such as the Workplaces and assessments, Number Corner and Problems & Investigations are the focus for this school year. Teachers should continue to experiment with the Workplaces and assessment tools and use them as they have time with their students.
I know you are all working very diligently to incorporate all areas of Bridges. I appreciate your focus on these two and wanted to make sure the message was delivered clearly.
Thank you!

A little information
Behavior:
Gen and I are keeping detailed notes on behaviors. Some of you have received emails with the event and consequence. This is my attempt at keeping you better informed on discipline and tracking some of our greatest offenders.Reading Club
We are starting a reading club with students. The basics....
- Office displays books of the month in the window.
- Have multiple copies available (limit 5 students per K-1, 2-3 and 4-5)
- Students read
- Principal and AC hold book club with each group during lunch on a Friday
- Book discussion, photo and lunch
BEST Rotations
We will do another BEST Rotation on January 17 at 9am. More later on rotations and locations. Any suggestions on improving this months rotations are greatly appreciated.
Testing Calendar
Gen placed a calendar in your mail boxes this week. Lots on the horizon.
Budget Reductions
The budget reductions will be going to the school board next month. We will know more once this happens. We will likely be cutting our site budget by 10-15%. I am working on class configuration scenarios and will include you in the conversation in January.
