Homer Highlights

Week of October 11, 2021

Dear Families,

This is a very important week...Parent-Teacher Conferences! Please take advantage of this time to speak directly with your child's teachers. We are almost halfway through the first semester. Use conferences as an opportunity to get to know your child's teachers and explain about important things happening at home that might be impacting the classroom. Don't be afraid to ask a teacher to explain their grading practices and classroom expectations, so you can help reinforce these with your student. If you have specific concerns for your student, either academically or socially, be sure to address these with your child's teachers. A successful partnership with an open line of communication between parents and teachers will only lead to a great success for your child!

Important - Early Release Days!

Please be sure to note these early release days for this week!

  • Tuesday, October 12 - Students dismissed at 1 pm.
  • Thursday, October 14 - Students dismissed at 1 pm.
  • Friday, October 15 - Students dismissed at 11 am.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are THIS WEEK!!!

COVID Updates and Quarantine Procedures

On October 2, 2021, the Calhoun County Public Health Department issued an updated quarantine order for all of Calhoun County. Under this order, we must following their procedures for contact tracing and implementing quarantines:

Contact Tracing

  • A close contact is someone that is within 6 feet of a positive individual for more than 15 minutes cumulatively in a 24 hour period.

  • If the close contact is fully vaccinated or has received a positive COVID-19 antigen or PCR test in the past 90 days, and is symptom free, the student does not need to be quarantined.
  • If the close contact is NOT fully vaccinated, the individual must complete a 10 day quarantine or can return to school after a 7 day quarantine with a negative antigen or PCR test taken on day 6 or day 7 after exposure.

We know that it is frustrating and confusing for our families, as many counties around us no longer have quarantine orders in effect. Please understand that we are working hard to comply with mandated regulations, provide a safe environment for our students, and continue to provide all students a quality education.

FREE Rapid Testing

To help provide greater access to rapid testing for our students and staff, we are now offering free testing at the school, Monday through Friday, from 8-9 am and from 2-3 pm. Morning testing is available at the nurse's entrance (in the elementary parking lot). Afternoon testing is available at the superintendent's entrance. Please fill out the appointment form below to schedule a rapid test appointment.

Family Engagement at Homer Community Schools!

We are excited to be starting back up many of our family engagement activities throughout the district! One of our most popular events is the Fall Clothing Grab and Go! This event will be held on Saturday, October 23, with clothing drop off on Friday, October 22. Please read the flyer below for more information!

Homecoming 2021 a Success!

Despite rain during the day, and a few delays during the game, Homecoming 2021 was a huge success! Students enjoyed an indoor assembly of games, followed by a parade with beautiful weather, and ended with the crowning of Ethn Gray as the Homecoming King and Livia Fleming as Homecoming Queen. The Varsity Football team concluded the long night with a victory for the Trojans! Congratulations to all involved!
