Facts about Jupiter
Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and is able to fit several thousand earths in it. Jupiter actualy plays a big role in our solar system as far as the inner planets are concerned. Earth wouldn't be the way it is right now if it weren't for Jupiter. In the solar system, astroids are always moving. The are moving toward earth actually. No! you might think. The reason we do not get hit by them is because Jupiter blocks them as they travel toward earth. As you might know, the astroid belt is to the left of jupiter and to the right of earth but many people don't know that Jupiter's gravity pulls the astroid belt's astroids toward it and the Kuiper belt (at the end of our solar system) is where the astroids come from that are heading in earth's directions.
Jupiter close up
In this close up view of Jupiter you can see that dot. It is called the Great Red Spot.
Jupiter far away
The Great Red Spot is so big you can still see it in this picture. Notice the bands on jupiter
Bands of Jupiter
These bands going across Jupiter are formed by the atmosphere and the elements that make up the atmosphere.
Space Suit
You need a space suit when coming to Jupiter to protect yourself from the extreme climate. This suit provides oxygen and keeps you warm.
A fun day on Jupiter
At Jupiter, we have resorts that are warm and cozy along with our ice skating rinks which you can have a blast in. Come snow skiing and enjoy Jupiter's finest restaurants which include steak and fish caught from Jupiter's ice fishing holes. It will be a blast for you and your family.
A day on Jupiter
Here on Earth, we have our day, which is 24 hours long. If you were to go to Jupiter, your day would be 10 hours long. That is not a lot to us. WE are used to more than twice that much. This means that Jupiter makes one full rotation on it's axis faster than earth does...WAY FASTER!!
Geographical Features
Jupiter's most famous Physical Feature that many think of when the word Jupiter comes to mind is the Big Red Spot, which happens to be a storm raging in Jupiter's southern atmosphere for at least 400 years. About 100 years ago, this amazing feature covered about 40,000 km of the surface. It is unknown to why the spot is Red. A common theory to this is that the elements making up the spot, when put together, form a red color. It is not known for sure.
Weather Conditions
Jupiter, like most planets, contain stormy environments except, Jupiter is Ultra Stormy. Winds blow very hard and the coldness all together is Ultra weather. Temperatures getting 2 times as cold as Antarctica plus the vicious winds make a huge impact on the wether. Humans could not survive here, even if they could breath.
Distance from Sun and distance from Earth
It is recorded that Jupiter is 778,500,000 kilometers away from the sun, being much farther away from the sun than Earth, meaning it is colder. The distance from Jupiter to Earth varies. When they are their closest, they are 628,743,036 kilometers apart. When they are the farthest away from each other, they are 928,081,020 kilometers apart.
A Year on Jupiter
Here on earth, a year is 365 days. that is how long it takes for the earth to revolve around the sun once. On Jupiter, one year is 11 EARTH YEARS!! (4,015 dAYS!!) You wouldn't be able to celebrate many birthdays. This means Jupiter rotates much quicker but revolves much slower.
Gravitational Pull
Compared to earth, Jupiter's gravitational pull is much stronger and if you were to land on Jupiter, you would have a hard time keeping yourself on your feet because of the strong, gravitational pull. If I were to stand on Jupiter, I would weigh 260 POUNDS!! I weigh 110 pounds here on earth, so in your head, think about the gravitational pull on Jupiter.
Average temperatures
Jupiter, being a cold planet,(too cold for humans to survive on has an average temperature of -234 degrees fahrenheit or -145 degrees celsius. This planet is really cold and it wouldn't be possible to put life on the planet, do to the atmosphere and extreme temperature.
Number of Moons
As it is right now, Jupiter has 63 moons we know of. Out of these 63, 49 are actually official along with 14 more moons that are unofficial. Jupiter is the planet with the most moons in our galaxy and scientists believe it will stay that way forever.
Atmosphere
Atmosphere elements
The giant planet is mainly composed of hydrogen, helium, methane and ammonia. However there is concentration of nitrogen, carbon, sulfur, argon, xenon and krypton as found by Nasa and the I.S.S The atmosphere appears to be divided by a number of light and dark bands parallel to it's equator.
