Mesquite Elementary Field Trip
Last week, GAMS visited the preschool, kindergarten and first grade classes at Mesquite Elementary. Their leadership skills were on full display as they mentored these young students. Eighth graders created a fun picture book and read it aloud, while seventh graders headed up a craft project. Everyone helped the little ones create a Halloween wreath to take home. Some classes also went to recess. It was fun to see the friendships that were made. Later, we reflected on our experience and roles. Most agreed that reading books together was their favorite activity. One GAMS student summed it up when he said, "I feel good about the field trip. I think that it was quite a success because we got to bond with the little kids."
7th Grade English Talking Points
In seventh grade English, our essential question is: What can cause a sudden change in someone's life? We are analyzing texts that feature people who have faced turning points, beginning with an excerpt from "I am Malala." A great dinner-table discussion might be about your own turning points! What has changed the trajectory of your life?
7th Grade Science
Ask your student to tell you about our science "class pet", Bob, and what they did/learned in the Newton's Laws Stations Lab!
