AVA Family Update
December 2, 2022
Good morning AVA Families,
Good morning.
In addition to the usual guidance and community updates, I have several important announcements below. The first is the schedule for next week, which is back to the regular schedule for the first time in a long time. The second is a note about the switch between Trimester 1 and Trimester 2.
Lastly, I am going to attempt to use Apptegy (the school communication platform I asked you to download months ago and haven't mentioned much since) to send this update. Some of you may get this message directly to you phones. For the foreseeable future, I will be posting this as usual to your email as well as Apptegy. When we move completely to Apptegy, I'll give everybody plenty of time to adjust. To prepare for the moment, there is a note about a workflow in Aspen you must complete to make sure it all works. I'll leave this up for several weeks.
Thank you for your time.

End of Trimester Grades and Switches
As most students will be dropping at least one trimester class for another, please consult your Aspen schedule to see what your new class is. For most, it will be a swap of a health class for an art class. For others, it will be a move into an MCAS Prep course. Those involved will receive a separate email later today for more specific information.
Please note: While Aspen schedules are compete and correct, your course switches in Edgenuity are not complete yet. They will be shortly. Your T1 class will remain visible to you for a week or so to you in Edgenuity even though it has finished. I'll clean everything up once all grades are finalized and we ensure accuracy.

Guidance Update
Naviance for Grades 9-11
As the end of T1 draws near, AVA students in grades 9, 10, and 11 should have completed their respective grade-level Career Survey. This is the first checkpoint for the school year, and students who have NOT completed the survey after T1 should do so immediately so as to not fall behind. Students will earn credit for Advisory at the end of the school year, and not completing Naviance assignments on time will affect their grade. Please email Ms Nellie (nng@attleboroschools.com) right away to make an appointment or stay after during Monday or Wednesday advisory if you need support or have questions.

10th and 11th - Career Interest Profiler Survey
NCAA - Free Info Session Webinar
The NCAA Eligibility Center is hosting an information webinar on Wednesday, December 14 from 6-7 p.m. Eastern time for college-bound student-athletes and families. The webinar will include review of the most recent COVID-19 automatic waiver relief. They’ll also go over requirements you must meet to pursue your dreams of studying and competing at an NCAA Division I, II or III school. Click here to register.
Seniors
Now that most AVA seniors have had their senior interview, students should have a direction on what to do from here to help prepare for after graduation.
College-bound: Please remember to create your CommonApp account as soon as possible, if you plan to apply through CommonApp. Create your student account HERE. Now is also a good time to begin drafting your CommonApp essay; essay prompts and info can be found HERE. As said in Advisory, seniors: feel free to share your essay drafts with Ms Nellie on a Googledoc (email to let her know) at least 2 weeks in advance of deadlines if you'd like your essay checked.
Workplace-bound: Please continue to check the AHS Student Job Board HERE run by Ms Marshall, the AHS Career Specialist. Feel free to email her at kmarshall@attleboroschools.com as well with any questions on local job opportunities and/or resume help.
Military-bound: AHS campus will be hosting an ASVAB testing administration on March 6, 2023. A signup link if forthcoming. In the meantime, here are a few links to some free online study materials:
Of course, all students are free to utilize the Naviance College/Career search tools as a resource. Also, please be on the look out for the weekly AHS Guidance Dept. email update. More details forthcoming...
As always, please email me at nng@attleboroschools.com with any comments, suggestions, and concerns, or to make a virtual meeting appointment. Have a marvelous weekend!
