First Month At A Glance

Welcome back from the summer! We got this year started off GREAT with our Band Camp last week. Learned some fun music, made new friends, and ate some ice cream sandwiches on Friday! I was happy to teach SO MANY KIDS what "Neapolitan" Ice Cream means.

We will NOT need instruments on the first day. We will need all supplies in class by Thursday. Supplies include:

  1. Instrument
  2. Reeds for Woodwinds
  3. Maintenance Supplies (Cork Grease, Valve Oil, Slide Grease, etc)
  4. Tuner with Clip
  5. Binder (you will get a new one on Thursday if you did not attend Band Camp)
  6. Pencil!!

Click here to order any missing supplies you will need for the school year.

Tuesday, August 24th is the UMS open house event. For band, we will briefly speak to everyone about band and cover some highlights for the school year. After open house our doors will be open if you have any questions!

Saturday, September 11th we will be hosting a Beginner Band Instrument-athon where all beginners will come up at different times to begin playing instruments for the school year. We are looking for two 8th grade volunteers in each instrument to help out that day! We will provide lunch for all volunteers.

  • Lessons are NOT remedial tutoring sessions. They are encouraged for ALL students. Many of our top-achieving students are in lessons.
  • Lessons are weekly 30-minute practices with one of our professional musicians on staff for your child to receive individual instruction. This helps students move at a pace that is perfect for them and get help with what they specifically struggle with, which is difficult to receive in a large group class regularly.
  • If you are interested but concerned about the financial commitment, please fill out the sign-up form and mark the box requesting scholarship consideration. We hope to help as many people who sign up for scholarship as possible.
