Kindergarten Newsletter ACES
Week Of February 5th
Highlights from last week....
In Phonics, we focused on spelling words by tapping them out.
We also practiced writing our first and last name on our work. Please reinforce this at home as well.
In Reader's Workshop, we focused on looking at the picture, the first letter and then looking through the word and sound out the letters that we know. This is where the majority of the class is with regards to their reading. Have them show you some of their strategies at home. They are really doing great! Please keep reading those books that we have been sending home weekly with your child.
In Writer's Workshop, we focused on writing key details from the text.
In Math, we started our new math module on composing and decomposing numbers. We also learned about number bonds and how to use them.
A peek at our learning this week....
This week we will be focusing on writing sentences and using our "tapping" skills to write words in the sentences. The children are doing a great job with their writing.
We will continue to practice writing our first and last name on our work. Please reinforce this at home as well.
In Reader's Workshop, we will be focusing looking through the word and sound out the letters that we know. We will be using "Flippy Dolphin", which is when you come to a tricky word, you can flip the vowel sound. Have them show you some of their strategies at home. They are really doing great! Please keep reading those books that I have been sending home weekly with your child. Also, please practice the sight words. The more sight words they know, the better readers they will become!
In Math, we will continue to work in our next module. We will be working on breaking numbers apart and putting them together using number bonds.
VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY- WEDNESDAY, February 14th
We will also be having our Valentine's Day party on Wednesday, February 14th. If your child chooses to participate, please have them ONLY sign their name to their valentines. This makes the distribution process a whole lot easier if we do not have to sort through the valentines looking for names. If funds are tight and you cannot afford to purchase valentines, we discussed that homemade valentines are just as great as store bought. Let me know and I can send home some construction paper for you. If you would like to send in a yummy treat for the party, please let me know by sending in a note in your child's red folder. Thank you in advance for you help!
100th Day!!

The children have been working so hard on decomposing numbers! They are getting great at using number bonds to help them break the number apart.
We have had many friends out sick. The room has been thoroughly cleaned and we are working hard on making sure we are washing our hands well to hopefully keep the germs away!!
As always, please keep reading at home and practicing the sight words! :)
Notes from Mrs. Marcoux
The children are becoming more confident in their abilities to read and tap out words. I am so proud of them! They absolutely love the non-fiction books we are reading in class. They have so much to share about the animals we have learned about.
We still have many children out with illness, please know we are wiping down the room, crayon boxes and pencils several times a day. I'm hoping the germs will finally be gone this week.
Have a great week!
Notes from Mrs. Goldthwaite
