Happy Spring, Key Communicators!
Finally the weather is beautiful! The year is winding down, but there are so many incredible things just starting, as well!
Here are a few updates and highlights! Enjoy the newsletter!
Project updates:
Bulldogs Bookin' Bus
It's year 2 of the Bulldogs Bookin' Bus summer mobile library! The literacy bus committee is currently finalizing this year's schedule. We are looking at maximizing our impact on students and hoping for a few additional or different locations to reach more kids.
We are also looking for volunteers! Ever wanted to drive a bus? You can! Because the bus does not transport students, you don't need a special license to drive it. We'll help you along the way, too, if you'd like to volunteer to be a driver. You can also volunteer to read to kids on the bus or help kids check out a book.
Early Childhood Education Center
The design of the new Early Childhood Education Center is close to wrapping up and a lot of work and planning are being done behind the scenes to create a place to welcome all 3 and 4 year olds for a preschool experience. The schedules, daycare options, scholarships, transportation and food service are among the topics being discussed now. The steering committee will work throughout the summer to finalize the details.
In August or September we will break ground on the new center! Be looking in your email for an invite!
1:1 Technology roll-out
We're beginning with grades 3-8 for the fall of 2018. Elementary students will keep their Chromebook at school. Middle school students will use it during the day and take it home. Parent meetings are scheduled for June to roll out the expectations, guidelines and new technology handbook.
School Safety Update
Already in place, we have talked with the Otsego Police Department and Allegan County Sheriff's Department to open our doors on a more regular basis for them to stop in, drive through, or whatever their time allows to be a more consistent presence at the schools - not just show up when something has taken place. It has been great to build these relationships with our law enforcement officers.
