Monday Matters
Thelma Jones Elementary Week of September 14-20
Greetings Shark Family!
Our first week went pretty well. Students were receptive to the changes and worked hard on following the procedures. Please continue to encourage your student to follow the new protocols and procedures, as consistency is key.
Friday, September 18th, is the last day of the 1st six weeks grading period. We have received updates on families who have requested to change their learning modality for the 2nd six weeks grading period. Ms. Khazem, our PEIMS clerk, will work on making those changes in Skyward and they will take effect on Monday, September 21st. This Thursday, you will receive an email from your student’s new teacher for the 2nd six weeks grading period. They will provide you with the necessary information to get you started, virtually or in-person.
If virtual or in-person, students are required to follow the same curriculum and abide by the same grading policy. Students must participate in instruction and turn in work, by the due date, to receive grades. This applies to core and enrichment classes. Teachers are expected to teach the same content in both settings and provide structure to students. It is important that you make sure that your student is attending class, virtually or in-person, and turning in assignments.
We want to see all of our students be successful, so let’s work together to make that happen.
In partnership,
Mrs. Rhines

NO VISITORS ALLOWED IN THE BUILDING
In order to keep our students and staff safe, no visitors will be allowed in the building. This includes walking your child to class and eating lunch with your child.
If your child forgets his/her lunch and/or any materials needed for their learning, please follow the following procedures:
· Ring the Bell to speak to someone in the front office
· Let them know you are there to drop off your child's lunch and/or materials needed for learning
· Leave your item(s) on a table in the foyer with your child's name on it. It MUST have your child's name on it. Someone will get it off the table and deliver it to your child.
· Exit the building after that. You will not be allowed to come into the front office and/or give your child their item(s).
*This is different than having an appointment and/or being called to come pick up your child due to illness or other circumstances.

Education Go Get It Week!
Education Go Get It Week is our week to celebrate and focus on college and career for our Shark learners. This year we will discuss “What would you like to be when you grow up?” Children are starting to learn about their interests and strengths. Once your child has made the decision to pursue a college education, the next step is to figure out what type of degree to pursue. Start by asking your child what is their favorite subject in school and exploring possible careers in that path. Careers can be found in all different avenues.
Student Activity
* Help your child complete their Diploma by researching the college or university that they would like to attend. A copy of the this diploma will be given to each student next week, virtual students will receive the student activity in the google drive.
QUEST (After School Childcare)
QUEST After-school Care will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 8, the first day of in-person instruction.
Safety Protocols
- Health screenings –Align with the district and have students and staff pre-screen prior to arrival. All QUEST team members will have district badges and key cards so we can utilize as a tracing function.
- PPE supplies – Student Services has provided the proper PPE supplies to utilize and ordered additional items to safeguard students and staff.
- Cleaning & sanitizing – At the end of each day, the custodial staff will clean every room/area utilized by the QUEST program.
- Instructor: student ratio – 1:12. Every attempt has been made to place students in cohorts, however this may vary based on enrollment.
- Hand washing – Hand washing will be built into the before and after school program schedules.
- Contact less check in/out – Quest will be implementing a drive thru check in/out procedure. Parents will utilize a PIN to check their child(ren) in/out. A driver’s license will be an added layer of verification at pick up. To assist with a rapid checkout we are strongly encouraging parents to utilize Remind 101 or Class Dojo. A QUEST staff member will meet them at the designated location with the child(ren). Security radios will be used for communication purposes.
- Sick/ill child – Parents of sick student will be contacted immediately for pick up and custodial services will be informed of area(s) needing to be cleaned/sanitized.
