The Husky Update February 22, 2021
Information for our Highline Community
From Principal Sanchez-Hart
Hello Highline Families,
If you haven't already heard from your child's teacher, it is spring conferences time. Please make an appointment to meet with your student's teacher to discuss how your student is progressing academically in reading, writing, and mathematics. Our partnership with families is crucial to your student's success. On Tuesday, February 23rd, report cards will go home. Please make time to review how your child is doing to prepare the questions you might have for your child's teacher.
Conference Dates:
- Evening conferences will be held from 3:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 24 and Thursday, February 25.
- Daytime conferences will be held Thursday, March 4th from 8:00-3:00 pm.
As always, I am thankful for our continued support from all of our Highline families and students, and it is my honor to serve the Highline Community students, families, and staff.
We are Highline - Proud, Strong and United!
Sincerely,
Diana

Every year in April our 3r-5th grade students participate in the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) assessment. Last year this assessment was cancelled by the state and this year we have not heard confirmation of whether the state will cancel or require the assessment.
Depending on the specific level:
- Your student should expect up to 9 hours of CMAS testing this spring in addition to the internal assessments that we use at the classroom and school level to determine where students are in their learning and to empower teachers with real-time data to adjust instruction and to meet the individual needs of students.
- This will take approximately 2 weeks to complete at each school during the required window.
- We will begin the process of identifying and provided directions for the collection of computers in the coming weeks to ensure we have enough devices to administer the assessments.
- If you are an Online or Elevation student, the assessment must be taken in person, so we will be providing more information to Online parents for how and when your students will need to come to a school to take the assessment with their peers.
As has always been the case for parents in Colorado, you can excuse your student from CMAS testing. If this is your choice, please fill out the exemption form located on the State Assessment Exemption tile at http://my.cherrycreek.org. You can view instructions for filling out the exemption here.
Thank you so much for your partnership and please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions regarding CMAS.

Get Ready for Cherry Creek Reads 2021
What’s your story?
Find out during Cherry Creek Reads 2021, a districtwide celebration of reading, coming up March 8-12!
The theme for the week is “Read Together, Share Our Stories Together!” and is based on the inspirational book Alma and How She Got Her Name by Juana Martinez-Neal. It’s a heartfelt story about a little girl who deepens her understanding of her own identity and her own story by learning about the power behind her name.
Just like Alma in the book, students, parents and families are encouraged to have fun dinner table discussions about the books each family member is reading, think about their own name stories and ask questions like, What does your name mean? What does your name stand for? What do you want to be known for?
Cherry Creek Schools students, parents, teachers, staff, friends and family members are encouraged to read for 67 minutes or more. That’s one minute of reading for every CCSD school. Students may also participate in a variety of special activities, from student-created podcasts, videos or posters telling their own name stories, messaging a favorite author or illustrator during our literacy time.
So, grab a book and join us for Cherry Creek Reads 2021!

Computer Use and Tech Support
We encourage your student(s) to continue to use their district issued computer at home. At this time we will not collect the computer distributed. Instead stay connected with your student's teacher. They may ask that students bring their computer to school to use or to complete homework at home such as iReady modules or an activity in SeeSaw.
Please continue to care for the devices and use them appropriately.
Tech Reminders:
- Charge your computer each night.
- Shut down the computer periodically when not in use.
- Keep food and drinks away from the devices.
Is your internet running slow?
- Try unplugging your modem.
- Let your modem stay unplugged for 10-15 minutes.
- Plug in and wait for the lights to come back on.
- Now your modem is ready to go.
