This Week at MHS

Here's what is happening October 19th -23rd

MHS Parents and Students,

Welcome Back from Fall Break! We missed seeing you, but hope you enjoyed your time away.

Monday, October 19 is FAFSA Frenzy Day at MHS. School counselors will host financial aid representatives to help seniors and their parents with FAFSA completion during school hours AND from 5:30-7:30 pm. To minimize contact, individual appointments either in person or via Zoom are required. We still have plenty of appointment times available!! Each appointment will be 30 minutes in duration. For an appointment, please contact Mary Beth Martin via phone 977-7970 extension 45206 or via email at mary.martin@maryville-schools.org. A Spanish interpreter will be available from 5:30-7:30 pm to serve our Spanish speaking families. In addition, representatives from Pellissippi State and Roane State will be on hand that evening to answer admissions related questions.

For parents of juniors and sophomores: applications for the 2021 Governor’s School programs are now available. The TN Governor’s Schools provide 11 challenging and high-intensity programs which are hosted at area colleges for a short time during the summer. Only sophomore and junior students are able to apply. MHS can nominate high-achieving 10th and 11th grade students who are in the top 5-10% of their graduation cohort for these competitive, academic summer programs. For more information, see your school counselor or view additional documents on the MHS webpage or the MHS School Counseling page. The MHS deadline for Governor’s School application packets is Friday, November 13. Late submissions will not be considered for Governor’s School nominations.

We want to congratulate our Volleyball team for their outstanding season - District and Regional Champs! This team begins play in the State Championship tournament on Tuesday. We wish our Lady Rebels the best of luck as they pursue the Division 1 State Championship.

Congrats to our soccer team on their win against Farragut to secure the District title! The team enters Regional play vs Oak Ridge this Tuesday at 7pm at the Kerr Family Complex. Come out and cheer on the team!

We are receiving an allotment of tickets from McMinn for Friday night's away game. All tickets will go on sale at the MHS front office on Tuesday, October 20th starting at 9am. All tickets are $8. McMinn is not selling any tickets at the gate Friday night.

Wishing you a great week!

Reminder - it is expected that all students will wear face coverings before school, during passing periods, at break, and any other times that social distancing cannot occur.

COLLEGE VISITS

College representatives will start visiting MHS after Labor Day. In our current time, these interactions will be mostly virtual. Upcoming college representative visits are listed on our daily announcements, in the MHS School Counseling 20-21 Canvas page and on your child's SCOIR dashboard. To protect privacy, we will not be publicly posting Zoom links for rep visits.

If your child wants to "meet" with the rep virtually, they have two options to do so.

  1. He/she can come to the library conference room during break on the date of the visit. School counselors will be there and will host the rep virtually with a group of students.
  2. Students can RSVP to the specific visit within the SCOIR platform. The morning that the visit is set to take place, we will email the Zoom code to your son or daughter.
