The 22-23 CST Family

11:15am Dismissal on Wednesday, 2/15
Week of 2/13
Dear CST Family,
A snow day on the Thursday before a 3-day Super Bowl weekend...wow, our kids gotta be loving it right now! Of course, we know next week is a 2.5 day week and SHOULD there be a reason to have any city-wide celebration next week, it appears Wednesday is will be in the air...speaking hypothetically and not at all in a way to overlook a critical piece to next week's plans...I feel like I've said too much.......
With last week's snow day our 7/8 band concert at OSHS and home boys' basketball games were canceled. Fortunately, both were able to be made up (band on 2/13 and BBB on 2/27) and those coaches and teachers will be in touch with their parents specifically. We were, however, able to get in 4 of the 5 high school enrollment nights for 8th graders (OSHS is Monday BEFORE the concert) and both Mrs. King and I were able to visit our 3 feeder elementary schools (ACE, MD, SS) to discuss 6th grade enrollment with our current 5th graders...love that event! All the enrollment process signals the beginning of the NEXT school year. The course selections help drive next year's schedule development and planning will be in full swing in only a matter of weeks. They year is moving quickly.
It would be fun to writing about the fun of next week following a SB LVII win, but, truly, the last two weeks have been so much fun regardless. Our students are pumped and the energy can be felt. It's a positive topic and one so many can rally behind. I love that our kids are able to experience this joy around the city and here at school. We'll root hard this weekend, but it's been a fun ride all the same.
Let's go CHIEFS!!!
Rick

Message from Dr. Yeager about Conferences/Possibility for a Parade
Olathe Public School families,
It has been so fun to see all the celebrations for the Kansas City Chiefs happening throughout our district this week. I wanted you to be aware of our plan for next week WHEN the Chiefs win the Super Bowl.
Regardless of the outcome of the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 12, Olathe Public Schools will have school as scheduled on Monday, Feb. 13. However, WHEN the Chiefs win the Super Bowl, Olathe Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 15 for both students and staff due to the Victory Parade happening in downtown Kansas City. This will be treated as an inclement weather day in which the entire district is closed, including our support buildings. JCPRD childcare will also be closed. If the date of the parade is changed for some reason, school and conferences will be held as planned on Feb. 15.
Elementary school families – if you have a conference scheduled for Feb. 15, your students’ teacher(s) will be in contact with you to reschedule that conference. Conferences can take place in-person, via phone, Zoom meeting or through email exchange. Staff has been asked to work with families to create these connections by March 3.
Middle and high school families – if you planned to attend the in-person conferences on Feb. 15, please contact the teachers you’d like to schedule a conference with. Those teachers will reach out to schedule a conference with you. Conferences can take place in-person, via phone, Zoom meeting or through email exchange. Staff has been asked to work with families to create these connections by March 3.
Thank you for your cooperation. Go Chiefs!

First Home BBB Game: CST Sporting Event Reminders
At CST we promote positive fandom and sportsmanship. Students are instructed to cheer for our team and not against the other team. Therefore, "airball" or "scoreboard" chants or negative comments toward referees are examples of behaviors we don't allow.
We expect our adult fans to follow what we promote to our students. Fans are in attendance to cheer on the team and not to help coach or help ref the games.
Thank you for your support in promoting and demonstrating positive sportsmanship for our student fans and athletes.
First home game is Tuesday vs Summit Trail.
How does addiction work?
Traffic Reminders
With colder weather we have less walkers/bikers and more vehicle traffic. Please plan accordingly and allow extra time for morning drop-off. Your child should have their items readily available and conversations finished prior to stopping so exiting the vehicle can be as efficient as possible. This helps the line not back up and maintains a constant flow of traffic. A few other reminders to assist with safety and efficiency...
- Those dropping in the front of the school may pass vehicles in the activity drop-off on the left
- If dropping off at the activity entrance, please do not pass others who are dropping off at the activity entrance to then merge back into the same activity drop-off lane--this creates a safety issue
- Form 2 lines for afternoon pick-up--students may cross at the front cross walk with CST staff only...do not encourage your child to run across traffic or parking lot.
Reminders for Walkers and Bike Riders
Please help us reinforce with students the best sidewalks to use upon arrival for walkers/bike riders (seen with the purple arrows on the map below).
- Students from east of Mur-Len should cross at the 159th/Mur-Len light and walk/ride toward the football field. They will avoid having to cross all vehicle traffic in the parking lot by doing this.
- Students coming from Lindenwood should take a left upon reaching the CST property and use the sidewalk next to our open field on the west. They should not cross exiting traffic onto 159th from the CST parking lot.
- A new bike rack was placed at the doors west of the front entrance.
- Students should exit the building using the same routes. PLEASE talk with students about crossing 159th at the light/cross walk...for their own safety, they should not cross 159th at any other location.
Thank you for your support as we promote safety and efficiency.
