Summer Questions?
Summer Work for Teachers
Can teachers be required to attend training or other workdays over the summer? The state school calendar law generally provides that teachers cannot be required to work more than 195 workdays and that the school calendar must include at least 42 consecutive days when teacher attendance is not required.
After the 195 workdays for the school year, a district cannot require a teacher to work additional days during the summer break. A district can request a teacher attend training or other workdays but cannot require a teacher's attendance. If a teacher elects to work on a day when attendance is not required, the district can either pay the teacher for that day or offer the teacher time off on another scheduled workday. A teacher can also opt out of working under these circumstances.
What about graduation that occurs after the end of the school year? Although most educators are happy to attend graduations, an educator who has a compelling reason to miss graduation should discuss it with the principal.

Budget News
Compromise on the Horizon
One thing is clear: as it is an election year, expect a raise. How much of one depends on who has the power on Jones Street.
AND as it is an election year, the budget will be done on time..... no October budget this year!
