What is Happening in the Classroom?
- In Mr. Chu's 7th Grade ELA, we are working on gathering text-based evidence in order to support an analysis. The analysis we are supporting is related to the central theme of our novel, "A Long Walk to Water" by Linda Sue Park. The central theme of this novel is that "individuals can survive in challenging environments". Currently, we are looking at gathering quotes as our evidence. These quotes must show a challenge that one of our main characters faces. All of this evidence gathering will assist us in reaching our ultimate goal where we will write an argumentative essay, with the central theme as our thesis. The students will use the evidence that they gather to support their thesis and complete the argumentative essay. I am very excited to see the results of our hard work!
- In Mrs. Cava’s ELA class, we are reading ‘Zebra” by Chaim Potok and various nonfiction articles, poems, and lyrics to follow how characters are challenged and developed through tragic situations. The theme of the lessons is perseverance and determination. Students will be citing evidence to support the theme of the short story, poems, and nonfiction text. Cumulatively, students will write an explanatory essay discussing how characters persevere to overcome their challenges.
Math- In math class, we will be exploring Rational Numbers. We have covered integer rules and operations, next we will be extending those rules to decimals and fractions.
Science- In Mr. Haddock's Science class we are taking a look at genetics and heredity. We are looking at how our cells reproduce as well as studying how to predict possible offspring using Punnett squares. On the Year-Round Team, we're continuing our study of plant and animal cells and the processes that go on in them.
Social Studies- In Social Studies this month students will be learning about the Haitian Revolution as we finish our discussion on the French Revolution and the impacts of the revolution. We will then learn about the Industrial Revolution and the transition from making goods by hand to the creation of goods with the use of machines.
