Conley Chronicle

July 2023

From the Desk of Mrs. Shore

Dear Conley Coyotes,

Welcome back to school! It brings me great joy and excitement to welcome each and every one of you as we begin another wonderful year at Conley!

I hope this letter finds you all refreshed and rejuvenated after a well-deserved summer break. The school has been quiet for far too long, and our classrooms await the laughter, energy, and enthusiasm that you bring with you each day. We have missed your smiling faces and the unique contributions each one of you brings to our school community.

As we embark on this new school year together, I want you to know that our dedicated team of teachers, staff, and administrators has been working diligently to create an environment that is safe, supportive, and inspiring for all students.

This year, we have prepared an engaging curriculum that combines academic rigor with creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Our goal is to foster your curiosity, ignite your passion for learning, and help you reach your full potential.

Remember, Conley is more than just a school; it is a community that supports and uplifts one another. We embrace diversity and value the unique contributions of each student. As you walk through our gates, you become part of a larger family, and we are here to guide and support you every step of the way.

Once again, welcome back YOTES! Let's make this a year to remember!

Warmest regards,

Mrs. Shore

Principal

Teacher Assignments

Teacher assignments will be emailed out to the email address in Infinite Campus on

Wednesday July 12th after 2:00pm. If you do not receive it by 5:00pm on Wednesday, you may call the office to verify the email and we will get the assignment emailed out.

At Conley Elementary, great care and consideration are taken when creating classroom assignments, ensuring that multiple factors are taken into account. Our dedicated team of educators thoroughly assesses various elements, such as students' academic abilities, learning styles, social dynamics, and individual needs. We strive to create a balanced and inclusive classroom environment, where students can collaborate, support one another, and thrive academically.

Therefore, we ask that you give your student two weeks in their new classroom environment to meet their new classmates and teacher before requesting a change. If you wish to request a change in your child's assigned classroom after the initial two-week period, please contact Mrs. Shore for further assistance and consideration.

Meet the Teacher

Join us for Meet the Teacher on Monday, July 17th 4:30-6:30 p.m. This is for all Preschool through 6th grade students. This is a drop in event so please come anytime you are available. During this time you will be able to meet your teacher, see your classroom and say hello to old and new faces around campus!

Free and Reduced Lunch

Each year we ask every family to complete a free and reduced lunch application. The reason we ask each family to do this is because we receive money from a federal grant based on the number of students who qualify for a free or reduced lunch. This funding allows us to provide additional support to all our students such as computer programs like Lexia and the hiring of additional staff such as our reading and math specialists.

Please take a moment to complete this application prior to school starting. If your child received free or reduced lunch last year a new application must be done each school year. Your child's status will carry over for the first 30 days of school but will be charged full price until a new application is submitted and approved. (We will also have paper copies available at Meet the Teacher).

Breakfast is priced at $2.25 per meal and lunch $3.25 per meal. You can add money to your child's lunch account here.

FREE backpacks, haircuts, shoes, and more

The City of Chandler is hosting their annual Operation Back to School on Saturday, July 15th 8:00-11:00 a.m. at Compass Christian Church located at 1825 S. Alma School Rd. Students must be present at the event and live in Chandler, or attend a Chandler school, to receive a backpack. Mrs. Shore, Mrs. Johnson (a new Mrs. Johnson - Social Worker) and our new Parent Liaison Mrs. Gutierrez will be there to help our families and answer any questions! Stop by the Conley table and say hello!

Annual Emergency and Annual Health Update

As we welcome you back to a new school year, we want to remind you that we request each family to annually update and verify important information such as address, phone numbers, emergency contacts, handbook consents, etc. This will open on July 11th and must be completed for each student in CUSD.

Please log into your Infinite Campus Parent Portal Account (click here) to make any necessary changes to your family's account.

Once you log into your account, please follow these steps:

  • Click on "More" on the bottom left hand side of the portal screen
  • Click on "Annual Update and New Student Registration"
  • Click on "Start" next to the second 23-24 line that says "Not Started"
  • Click "Begin Registration"
  • If you are using the app, click the three lines on the top left, click on "More", and then click on "Annual Update and New Student Registration".

This update must be completed annually.

Please be advised that the answers provided on the Annual Update for the 22-23 school year will be end dated, so it's important that you complete this update for the 23-24 school year in order to have valid information for items such as Media Release, Internet Release, Virtual Consent, etc.

If you have not setup a parent portal account, please click here and follow the instructions on the site. Should you need any assistance or have any questions please contact your child's school.

Water Bottles

It is hot outside! Please send a water bottle with your child to school each day with their name on it. They will be able to refill it throughout the day. We do not provide water bottles here on campus.

Transportation Registration

In an effort to streamline transportation resources, all eligible bus riders (Conley is your home school and you live more than 1 mile away), must register for transportation services. Below you will find a document that shows you how to register for transportation. We are asking bus riders to please register ASAP to ensure transportation services are set up prior to the first day of school.

Student Handbook

Please take a moment to review our CUSD student handbook. This handbook includes policies on dress code, technology, and many more important policies that pertain to school. Each year we ask families to not only review the handbook, but sign off that they have read it and understand it. You can find the handbook here.

Attendance

The best way to help your child be successful is to have them to school each and every day and on time. Morning drop off begins at 8:15 a.m. with our first bell ringing at 8:25 a.m. Students are considered tardy when they arrive after 8:30 a.m.

We understand students get sick and if a student is sick please keep them home to rest. If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please notify our attendance line at 480-812-6203.

Birthday Treats

We love celebrating birthdays! All students are allowed to bring a healthy store bought treat to share with the students in their class. Please do not send donuts, cupcakes, cookies, or other sugary treats. Also, we have many students with nut allergies so please do not bring items that may contain nuts. Items that can be brought include, cheese sticks, crackers, fruit, or pretzels. Also any non food item is a great treat to share with the class. Please note, we do not allow balloons in the classrooms as we have students with latex allergies. In order to not take time away from the instructional day, the teacher will find the best time in their day to celebrate so please communicate with your child's teacher if you have any questions.

Visitors on Campus

We are excited to welcome volunteers into our classrooms and school. If you are interested in volunteering please schedule a time with your child's teacher or stop by our PTO table during Meet the Teacher. When visiting campus, either to volunteer or for lunch, you must sign in at the front office and receive a visitor's badge. Only those who have arranged with the teacher to volunteer will be permitted on campus.

Please note: Parents may eat lunch with their students on Fridays ONLY starting after October Break. Since parents and students eat outside, it is simply too hot to start before October.
