We Love to Read Reading Challenge
*****************With Strings Attached!*******************
We Love to Read Week-Feb. 9-13
To help promote the LOVE of reading, our students and staff will take part in some fun reading activities during the week leading up to Valentine’s Day. Our goal is to get kids jazzed up and exposed to multiple texts in hopes they come across that one book that sparks a lifetime love of reading.
The students are being challenged to read 1000 books starting Monday, February 2nd through Friday, February 13th. That equals 3 (on level) books per student. If students meet their goal, they each get a turn spraying Mrs. Noe with SILLY STRING!!!! Let the reading begin!
Monday, February 9, 2015
Make your mark! Students will create bookmarks for North Elementary students. These bookmarks will include advice on becoming a good reader. Students will also work toward the main idea challenge for Thursday.
Tuesday, February 10, 2015
For the love of Language!! We will celebrate figurative language by allowing students to dress up or bring a visual representation of an idiom. Here are a few examples to help you brainstorm. Tell the kids to keep their idiom a secret to see if their classmates can guess it!

Thursday, February 12, 2015
We “Mustache” you for the main idea! If each student completes the main idea challenge their teacher will wear a mustache all day. These activities will take place in their classrooms.
Friday, February 13, 2015
Let’s Recap! Students can wear a cap to school. We will recap and summarize all of the great things we have read this week.
Parent Prep Work
1) Help your child choose an idiom and costume for Tuesday.
2) Assist your child in finding a book at home that they are willing to swap on Wednesday for our book swap.
3) Remind them to pick out a cap to wear on Friday.
4) Help them find books around the house to donate to Summer Lunch Bunch.
5) Encourage them to read books for the 1000 book challenge. We thank you in advance for your help!
