Passionately empowering learners through connection and innovation
134th Street Now OPEN!
Beginning with the opening of 134th Street, student drop-off and pick-up has been moved to the front (north) side of the building. The temporary roadway on the east side of the building previously utilized for bus traffic has been closed to traffic. The parking lot on the east side of the building will only be accessible before 8:00 a.m. and after 3:30 p.m. each day; therefore, parents are asked to avoid parking in this lot.
We are so grateful for your patience over the past several months as we awaited the completion of 134th Street. We could not ask for a more supportive group of families with which to share this year of East Elementary "firsts!"

Severe Weather Awareness Day at the Science Spectrum! Sat. March 2
The Student Chapter of the American Meteorological Society at Texas Tech University, along with KCBD News Channel 11, the National Weather Service, and the Science Spectrum, will be hosting Lubbock’s 13th annual Severe Weather Awareness Day on Saturday, March 2nd, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Science Spectrum & OMNI Theater.
Activities will include hands-on weather experiments for kids of all ages, live weather demonstrations with tornado and lightning simulators, information on severe weather preparedness, and door prizes. Storm Chasing vehicles and weather instrumentation from Texas Tech’s Severe Storm Research Team as well as emergency vehicles from area EMS and Fire Departments will be on-site and open for all to see.
Special OMNI Theater screenings of the film Tornado Alley will also be featured in celebration of the day’s events. Tornado Alley follows daring large-format filmmaker Sean Casey (star of the Discovery Channel’s wildly popular Storm Chasers series) and the researchers of the VORTEX2 initiative on a thrilling quest to witness the birth of a tornado from its very heart. Armed with an IMAX® camera, a fleet of customized vehicles designed to withstand gale force winds, torrential rains and unrelenting hail, and an arsenal of the most advanced weather measurement instruments ever created, Casey and the VORTEX2 scientists take audiences on a heart-pounding mission to experience a tornado’s destructive power while gathering the most comprehensive extreme weather data ever collected. http://tornadoalleymovie.com/
Forecasters from the National Weather Service (NWS) office that serves the South Plains area, whose local offices are located in the Science Spectrum building, will also be providing Tornado and Severe Weather Safety talks as well as Storm Spotter Training and information to the public.
Additionally, come out and meet John Robison, Steve Divine, Cary Allen and Kelly Plasker, from the KCBD weather crew for a weather-filled day of fun!
This is a *FREE event for the general public and will be located in the Science Spectrum’s main lobby and front lawn.
