Katy ISD Education Foundation Harvey Relief Fundraiser

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, 15,007 students and 2,600 employees of Katy ISD are recovering from direct impact of the storm. Despite the destruction, the Katy community has proven to be "Katy Strong" in providing support to those in need.

The Katy ISD Education Foundation has launched a unique fundraiser that will provide support for Katy ISD staff, students and their families adversely impacted by flooding in their homes as a result of Hurricane Harvey.

The funds will be administered by the Katy ISD Education Foundation.

Every Katy ISD campus will be given the opportunity to designate staff and students in need of support.

Any donation you can make regardless of size will help us help our Katy ISD family.

Please share this opportunity on social media and email to help spread the word.

Recent Change in Instructional Calendar

As you are now aware, the district has made the decision to use four of the previously scheduled early dismissal days as full instructional days to make up for lost instructional time.

October 9, October 20, February 16 & April 13 will now be FULL INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS for students.

We will continue to have early dismissal days on December 15 & May 24.

Due to the changes, we have added specials rotations for these four days. These are the only dates that have a change in specials rotations.

October 9 - Rotation Day 1

October 20 - Rotation Day 2

February 16 - Rotation Day 3

April 13 - Rotation Day 4

Wear Tie-Dye October 4th for Creativity!

Paperwork about GT screening for Junior High has been sent home with all 5th graders. Secondary Parent Checklists will be available upon request from the front office or online at the GT/Advanced Academics Department website. Secondary Checklists are due by 4:00 pm on Thursday, September 28. This is a change from the published due date due to school missed during Harvey. No checklists will be accepted after September 28. Screening takes place throughout the fall semester, and final placement decisions are mailed home the end of January.

Information regarding screening of Kindergarten students for the gifted and talented program has been sent home with Kinder students. Kindergarten parents who would like to refer their children for screening must return the Kindergarten Parent Checklist to OKE by 4:00 pm on October 3, 2017. No late checklists will be accepted.
There is a FAQ page and video on the Katy ISD GT/Advanced Academics website for more information about kindergarten screening that can be accessed at: http://www.katyisd.org/dept/GT/Pages/Kindergarten-Screening.aspx

PTA Membership - Help Us Reach 100%

Thank you to all of our parents, grandparents, family members, faculty, and community members who have joined the OKE PTA! We are currently at 90% of our goal. Every year it is our goal to have one voice for each child enrolled at OKE. We have had 100% membership EVERY YEAR since OKE opened its doors in 2003.

Your membership does NOT mean that you must volunteer, but a PTA membership is required for all PTA volunteers at OKE, including homeroom parents, Watch D.O.G.S. dads, library volunteers, and EureKa! volunteers.

For those of you who have already joined the OKE PTA, your membership card and special OKE spirit stick will be distributed to your oldest child by the end of the month.

Please download the membership form from www.OKEPTA.org, send it in with your child, and join our commYOUnity.
