Early Life
Booker T. Washington was born a slave on April 5,1856 with a white bad and a black mom. He worked by carrying sacks to the plantation mill. He was first exposed to education outside of his plantation. he learned the alphabet and woke up at about 4:00 AM to study. In 1866, he went to school for an hour a day and graduated from Hampton.
Famous Works
Gave a speech called the Atlanta Compromise at the Cotton Exposition which was about the negro problem. It was also about racial tensions between whites and blacks because of blacks being freed.
Contributions to Georgia
He established Tuskegee University and was the first teacher there. He also encouraged blacks to work and get an education which helped to affected the society that we live in today.
Impact on Georgia
Contributed to blacks to support the civil rights movement in the 1960's. he created an all black faculty to make the belief that blacks could leave.
