Mrs. Cobb's Message

Dear Taylor Families,

We are coming to the end of the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year! Thank you for helping us follow all health guidelines to keep our students and staff safe this year.

Taylor Elementary currently has 472 students in person and 299 students who are digital. We are expecting 541 in person and 229 digital students, beginning January 7, 2021.

With our current face-to-face students and everyone taking responsibility to help stop the spread of COVID-19, the spread within our school has remained low. Visit the GCPS Return to Learning Hub for current COVID-19 Information By School.

We share this information with you to be transparent, giving you the information necessary to make the best decision for your family when choosing your student's learning environment for the 2nd Semester. If you did not complete the district survey, your student will remain in his/her current learning environment unless you request a change. If you need to check your student’s Spring 2021 instructional status, please log in to ParentVUE on the Parent Portal. If you do not have a parent portal account, please visit the GCPS Parent Portal Information Page for information on setting up an account.

We are prepared to serve you in the event you decide to make a change to the previously selected learning environment. If you would like to discuss a change, please contact Taylor Elementary’s Student Data Management Clerk, Mrs. Andrea Wrighten at Andrea.Wrighten@gcpsk12.org no later than Thursday, December 17, 2020.

After December 17, 2020, there will no longer be any changes made to the learning environment selected by your family. It is important to note that the chosen environment is for all of 2nd Semester. This will help prevent the fluidity and disruptions that our staff faces when students move from one environment to another and will help ensure our staffing plans are the best for all students.

As always, we will evaluate student and family needs on a case-by-case basis in the event of extenuating circumstances. Thank you for your continued support.

Congratulations to our Spelling Bee Winner!

On Friday, December 11th we held our annual Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Eddie Williams from the Beasley/Butler team for winning this year's Bee! Anaya Myles from Mrs. Long's class was our runner-up. Thank you to all of our 4th & 5th grade spellers for 17 rounds of excitement!

A Very Taylor Holiday

Please join us as Kindergarten and First Grade present an outdoor, socially distanced holiday program on Wednesday, December 16th!

Parents should park in the large parking lot; due to limited parking, we ask that you arrive no earlier than 30 minutes prior to the start of your student's performance. You may set your chairs up on the front lawn, and please remember your masks.

Digital Learners joining us for "A Very Taylor Holiday" will stand in front of their class of in-person learners. Digital Learners should be walked to the front doors where they will be held in the Atrium. Parents of Digital Learners will pick up their children from the front doors.

Rain plan: If weather does not permit, we will host a Zoom session; details to follow if necessary.

Relay for Life Pajama Day!

Pajama Day is Friday, December 18th. Bring a $1.00 donation for our Taylor Relay for Life Team and wear your pajamas to school. The pajamas need to be school appropriate. Nightgowns will need leggings or pants underneath. Let's get comfy on the last day of school before Winter Break!!

Winter Parties

Class parties for all grade levels will be Friday, December 18th. Parties will be held in each homeroom. Unfortunately parents and families can not attend this year. If you have been asked to donate food and/or drinks for your child's class, please make sure all items are individually packaged, store bought treats.

Winter Break

Faculty and Staff and Students will begin winter break at the conclusion of school on Friday, December 18, 2020. Students will return from winter break on Thursday, January 7, 2021.

Calendar Adjustments for Spring 2021

The school board approved a new calendar for January-May 2021 that will include 4 digital learning days and a later return from Winter Break.

The calendar now calls for students to return to learning (in the classroom or online) on Thursday, Jan. 7, a day later than originally planned.
