Extension 4-H

Welcome, Carissa!

My name is Carissa Kleinwort and I am happy to announce that I am your new Extension Educator!!! A little about me: I recently graduated from South Dakota State University (Go Jacks!) with a Bachelor of Science with a major in Animal Science and a minor in Biology. Growing up, I was really involved in 4-H and FFA. I have shown most species but have the most experience in meat goats, dairy, sheep, and beef. I was raised on a small farm in Dodge Center where my family raises Boer goats and a few cows. Another fun fact is that I will be getting married in the fall. I am so excited to meet all of you! Please feel free to contact me if you need anything!

  • The FairEntry website (where you'll register for individual classes for the fair) is open as of May 16! This registration will be due by midnight on June 16. You'll start by going to wabasha.fairentry.com and you can find resources on the Extension website.
  • Are you interested in being on a dairy judging team? Please contact Kayla Sexton (kaylaleiding@gmail.com); practices start in early June!

LQA&E Training

Livestock Quality Assurance & Ethics (LQA&E) training helps youth provide excellent care for their animals and ensure a high level of food safety to consumers. This training was designed to enhance the educational experience of 4-H animal science projects.

LQA&E training is required for all state fair exhibitors. Youth must provide proof of the completed training by livestock check-in day at the County Fair, July 19, to be eligible to take a State Fair trip. Youth may take an in-person training which is valid for three fair seasons (you can see a list of upcoming trainings on the Extension website) or the online YQCA (Youth for the Quality Care of Animals) training which is valid for one fair season.

If you've added livestock projects in 4HOnline, you will receive an email notifying you that your training will have expired by the fair or you've never taken it.

Upcoming Dates:

May 15: Animal ID Deadline (add and update animals in 4-H Online before this date)

June 16: FairEntry Deadline

June 16: YELLO (registration is closed)
