Congratulations Mrs. AnnMarie Underwood!

#SteinhauerProud's Mrs. AnnMarie Underwood named DISTRICT Teacher of the Year!

I would like to share with our community an excerpt from a letter I was privileged to write and submit to our county in honor of Mrs. Underwood:

"Mrs. Underwood is a dynamic 5th-grade teacher leader in our building that embodies the characteristics of perseverance, collaboration, and collective leadership. Moreover, from my first-hand observations of Mrs. Underwood, I would describe her as a lifelong learner focused on equity to meet the needs of all of her students while maximizing relationships with their families.

Mrs. Underwood is a champion of equity for her students, Steinhauer School, and the Maple Shade community. Specifically, Mrs. Underwood is an active member of the Maple Shade School District’s Equity Council. Her contributions as part of this group include writing curriculum units focused on current events to meet the needs of our fifth and sixth-grade students while also providing a safe space to discuss their feelings and perspectives.

Mrs. Underwood’s perseverance through the last year has had a maximum impact on the students she teaches. Mrs. Underwood worked with her fifth-grade team to maintain an environment where her students produced evidence of student learning focused on the New Jersey Student Learning Standards in ELA and SS while also understanding the unique circumstances and challenges each student may be experiencing. She displayed patience and grace while continuing to instruct at a high level.

Her commitment to our students, our school, and the Maple Shade community are evident through her own educational journey as a lifelong learner focused on equity and building positive relationships. As Principal of Steinhauer School, I feel lucky and proud to work with such a passionate educator. Thank you!”
