District Improvement Survey
This information was shared last month via email, but we have not had many parents complete our survey. Please see the following information to help us provide a quality education for all.
Dear Parent/Guardian:
In order for us to continue to improve as a school district and as a school, it is important for us to know how our parents/guardians regard the job we are doing in providing a quality education for all of our children. Your feedback is crucial for us to know what you consider our strengths and our opportunities for growth. The best way to gather this information is to survey our parents/guardians using a survey developed by the Center of Educational Effectiveness (CEE), a Bellevue, WA-based research firm.
To gather this information we are asking that you take a few minutes to complete this very important confidential and anonymous survey. The survey will only take about 10 minutes to complete.
Just click on this link to the parent survey to get started: bit.ly/22ParSur
This link will be active until December 9, 2022.
-Choose your language preference on the opening page of the survey.
-Select your student’s school.
-Complete the survey and click submit.
The information that CEE receives will be reported back to the district as a whole and each building will receive its specific profile data as well. This data will provide us with information to support our building school improvement plans as well as our district strategic planning.
All 4th - 12th grade student(s) will also receive the opportunity during the school day to give feedback anonymously and confidentially from their perspective at their school. This survey is in compliance with Policy 3232. If you wish to preview the questions that are on the student survey, please contact Nick Bontrager at the district office at nbontrager@mlsd161.org to arrange for a time to preview the questions. Students will be given the survey at their school sometime between the dates of November 14th and December 9th.
We value your input as we strive to continue to improve our schools. Thank you for your feedback.
Sincerely,
Nick Bontrager

Another month has flown by and it is almost Christmas. I am so grateful and blessed to work at Longview Elementary! Everyday that I get to spend time with the children and families of Longview is such a gift! In November, we have continued to provide education on reporting bullying, identifying emotions, empathy (trying to understand how another person is feeling), and compassion for self and others. Helping our kids connect their thoughts, feelings, and actions provides opportunities to problem solve positive change. Parents can teach children the power of words and define rules and guidelines to assist a child in expressing themselves while being respectful of others. I have included a link to an article that may help. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!

Physical Education with Mrs. Lacelle
Hi Longview families,
November P.E. Recap
November was full of Speed Stacking games and activities. Today schools, teachers and parents are focused more than ever on academic achievement. Sport stacking not only promotes physical fitness, but also academic learning. Students that sport stack on a regular basis have shown increases in test scores and levels of concentration. This is achieved by students using both their right and left sides of their brain. When students sport stack they are crossing the "midline" of their bodies and developing new connections in their brains. These new connections help to spur brain growth which in turn promotes greater academic achievement.
Thank you for your Support
During the month of November I ran a P.E. fundraiser by selling speed stacks. We sold out in one week! I was also able to purchase new speed stacking equipment that will be used in the many years to come!
December P.E.
After our Thanksgiving break we will be participating in our Gymnastics Unit..Educational gymnastics is not the same type of gymnastics seen on TV during the Olympics. It focuses on teaching introductory skills and concepts in a safe way related to traveling, balancing, rolling, and the transfer of weight. The skills in this unit will transfer to help students become more successful in any sport that they would like to pursue as well as personal hobbies or other interests later in life.
MAX YOUR DAY PHOTO WALL
Here at Longview we like to spotlight students that make the choice to be active outside of the school day. In our gym we have a photo wall of students that are being active outside of school. If your child is making the choice to get up and be active, we want to celebrate that! Take a picture and send it to me at jlacelle@mlsd161.org and I will place their picture on the wall!

Weather, Emergencies, and School Closures
Snow and inclement weather (smoke, snow, freezing rain, wind, extreme temperatures, etc) can create confusion for all of us when it affects the school schedule. As emergency weather days often come at the last minute, it is important to be prepared for school delays and closures.
The automated phone system will deliver robocalls, texts (if opted in) and emails notifying families of school closures by 5:30 AM. Closures and delays will be broadcast on the district website homepage, Facebook, radio, and television news stations no later than 6:00 AM.
Closures
School buildings, facilities, and transportation may be closed due to inclement or extreme weather (poor air quality, freezing rain, snow, freezing temperatures, wind chills, etc.). Any closures will result in a school makeup day at the end of the year, there is no remote learning this year.
Late Start
On marginal days when it appears the weather will break, schools may start up to two hours later than normal. This allows road crews to catch up, temperatures to rise, and buses to run in daylight.
Late start days are considered full school days and are not required to be made up. Here is what you can expect:
- Elementary schools will begin at 11:00 AM
- Bus routes will run 2 hours later than their normal pick-up time
- Breakfast will not be served
Early Closures
Because of the possibility of children coming home to locked houses, we will make every effort not to close schools early. However, under severe emergency conditions, we may need to proceed with early closure. Early closure will be announced on local radio stations and our phone messaging system.
Winter Wear!!
Cold weather is here. Please make sure your child/children are dressed warmly for school. Don't forget our students spend two recesses outside, thus making it important that they have transitioned to heavier coats, gloves, hats, long pants and tennis/loafer type shoes.
