Te Rōhutu Whio 11th July 2022
Kia ora e te whānau!
We are super excited to be able to welcome you to our official opening of Te Rōhutu Whio which will include our Mihi Whakatau for new whānau and anyone who has not been welcomed on. This will be a very special occasion and our tamariki will be busy planning for it during the first two weeks of the term. The event will be held on Friday 5th August at 10am and due to a limit on numbers you will need to RSVP by 15th July. Every whānau at Te Rōhutu Whio is welcome to bring two members of their family. If you have been welcomed at our first Mihi Whakatau, you will sit with our tamariki who have been welcomed and if not, you will have a special place on our visitors' side and will come on with our very special guests.
We loved having so many of you at our cultural dance performance. We are so lucky at Te Rōhutu Whio to have so many countries and cultures represented and best of all, shared so that we can all enjoy celebrating together.
We are very grateful that we have been able to remain open during Covid when many schools have had to be shut. We thank you for your continued support and understanding!
Kia pai te hararei. Have a great holiday with your tamariki and we will see you on Tuesday 26th of July
Kia pai te rā. Enjoy your day.

Introducing our new kaiako - Olivia O'Brien

Kia ora koutou!
I am Olivia O’Brien and I am very excited to be a part of the team at Te Rōhutu Whio. I have lived in Tauwharekākaho for most of my life and am looking forward to working alongside the tamariki and other kaiako at this kura.
My background is in performing arts being a dancer and choreographer and I am super excited to be able bring my love and passion for the arts to Te Rōhutu Whio. I love all things creative and look forward to moving, grooving and getting down to business!
I love spending time with my friends and whānau whether its watching sport, eating good kai or watching a good movie. I love to have a laugh and enjoy the company of the people I love.
I am really looking forward to getting to know more about our kura, our people and our community and can’t wait to get into the akomanga!
Cultural Day
Yesterday, we celebrated the individual cultures that make up our wonderful kāinga ako learning villlage. All tamariki learnt a different cultural dance which they then performed for whānau and friends. Tamariki were also invited to share something from their own cultures. We had dances, waiata, and games to celebrate. We loved seeing the colourful cultural dress, and the wonderful diversity that makes up our school!
Ngā mihi nui to our fabulous MC, Swastik for planning the day and ensuring it ran smoothly. We are so proud of him!

Hangarau Technology at Te Rōhutu Whio
This week sees the conclusion of our learning with the ākonga from Rolleston Primary School and West Melton. Over the term, the tamariki have been learning collaboratively in groups on personalised projects. Rolleston School ākonga worked on community-focused projects as a way of giving back to our local heroes, and the ākonga from West Melton followed a passion-based interest for their projects.
We have been super impressed with the creativity, problem-solving, and engagement of all of the tamariki and many of the final outcomes have blown us away.

Stay well this winter!
It’s already proving to be a tough winter for our communities - as we opened the door to international travel, all those winter bugs seem to have slipped through at the same time.
Here are some top tips for staying well this winter:
Avoid getting sick:
▪ Eat well, stay active, mask-up! Keep up those healthy habits and make sure you have the best protection possible by getting vaccinated against COVID-19, measles and the flu.
▪ Washing your hands well and often, or using an alcohol-based hand sanitiser is one of the most effective ways to stop flu-like illnesses and tummy bugs from spreading.
If you do get unwell:
▪ Stay away from work or school.
▪ Test for COVID-19 with a RAT. Follow COVID-19 isolation guidance if you or your whānau test positive.
▪ Seek help early by phoning Healthline on 0800 611 116, 24/7.
▪ In most cases flu or a tummy bug can be safely managed at home. Call ahead before visiting your health provider, rather than visiting in person, and stay away from hospital unless it’s an emergency.
