Participate in the Waste Free Lunch Challenge

April 18 is the Waste Free Lunch Challenge. Each year on average students who bring a packed lunch to school generate 67 lbs of waste The Conservation Committee is promoting a waste free lunch challenge day during Earth Week to see if we can reduce our trash weight. We weighed the lunch waste on a day in March and it was 69 lbs. We’d like to bring that number down. The three lunch periods will compete against each other. We’ll weigh the garbage and see who wins and also if we can bring our overall weight down. Students who get a hot lunch will have an opportunity to lessen their waste by being encouraged to only take what they will eat. The best way to reduce our trash is to take a extra little time to pack reusable containers. More tips will be shared on Facebook and on posters around school for parents and students to learn about packing a waste free lunch.
