Hat Day to support the Arts
Halloween Parade and Party
Our parade is on for 2021.Great News!! On Friday, October 29 we will parade through the streets of Huntington Woods beginning at 9:00 in the morning. The High School marching band and the HW Fire and Police will begin our parade and we will follow in full costume. Students should come to school in their Halloween costumes. The classroom parties will follow the parade, unfortunately we will not be able to have any parent volunteers in the building helping with the parties. Not so Great News. It is too soon to have large groups of people in the classrooms. The teachers are happy to have their room parents plan the party with them and also provide the necessary party needs, but will oversee the parties by themselves. For rooms that need extra hands we will provide the support with our support people already in the building. Maybe Halloween of 2022 we can have parent volunteers back in the rooms.
This is a half day of school so dismissal will be after the party at 11:20 am.
Information about Covid and Communication
Last week Superintendent Francis shared a communication with updates to our quarantine and isolation guidelines. While we do have cases in our District, we are happy to announce we have no spread happening in our buildings. Our safety protocols (mask wearing, strong ventilation systems, regular cleaning), are preventing any COVID-19 spread from occurring.
After speaking with leaders in other districts, with our principals and with Oakland County Health Division (OCHD), we have one communication change to announce.
We will continue to communicate directly with families who have children identified as close contacts (within 6 feet of someone who is COVID-19 positive for more than 15 minutes during the school day). Those who are close contacts will have to monitor for symptoms, quarantine or participate in a testing program, depending on the exposure type and whether both parties were masked or vaccinated. As a reminder, we’re following the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) protocols for quarantining close contacts. You can view the MDHHS quarantine guidelines on their website.
Starting next week, in addition to personally notifying all close contacts of their potential exposure to COVID-19, we will also begin sending classroom letters to elementary families if there is a case of COVID-19 in the classroom. These letters will not share whether it was a staff or a student who is positive, nor will it share any identifying information of the person who is positive. The letter will let parents know that a case is in the classroom.
If your child is not identified as a close contact, there are no additional precautions or steps recommended for you to take.
OCHD and MDHHS recommend that parents/guardians should always be monitoring their children for symptoms, and we encourage families to use the Clear to Go app to do a symptom check every morning. If your child is sick, we appreciate you keeping them at home.
It is also important to remember to share with your school administrator if your child tests positive for COVID-19 after an outside of school exposure so we can do contact tracing in our building if necessary.
