What Are You Doing For Others?
Canned Food Drive Theme: The Incredibles
Volunteerism in high school is an important activity for many reasons. Most volunteer activities help students learn and practice skills in real world environments. Being a volunteer helps students prepare for a future career. One of the best ways for any young person to start gathering ideas about what they want to do after graduation is by volunteering. They get to learn about the world of work, build great work-related values and mature socially through volunteering. Many teens end up going into careers that are needed by our society, such as working for non-profits, or getting involved in medical, legal, or social work as a result of their experience with volunteering. Being a volunteer allows them to learn important skills they can use in their future careers, like time management and people skills. Volunteer activities are great additions to a student’s resume whether they are applying to college or their first paying job.
Volunteering also allows high school students to give back to society. Students learn the value of having compassion for others, and how they can be a productive member of their community. When students help those less fortunate they gain perspective on their own lives. It is eye-opening to realize that doing even small things can have a big impact on others. As Lobos we value a culture founded on the highest qualities of character - Excellence, Integrity, Respect, and Compassion. Providing students ways to give back to our community is one way we are helping students develop these qualities.
Monday kicks off our district and campus annual Canned Food Drive benefiting our local Food Bank. Did you know...The Little Elm Area Food Bank estimates over 75,000 pounds of can and package foods are needed to furnish a minimum level of support to those in need? With your generous gift through the Little Elm ISD One Hand Can Food Drive, we are able to provide emergency food aid and holiday meals to those in need in our community. #OneHandCanFoodDrive #loboscare #feedafamily The One Hand Can Food Drive - It's Incredible, begins Monday, Oct. 22 and runs through Friday, November 2 at every LEISD campus. The more we talk about our community need to help those families that are hungry and the more opportunities we provide for our students, staff, and parents to contribute, the more successful our canned food drive will be. Ultimately our goal is to stock the shelves of our local food bank so that no one in our community has to go to bed hungry. Need more details? Read the district article on the canned food drive here. Please check the list for needed items by clicking on this link. The food bank has a huge need for protein donations such as canned meats, peanut butter, etc.
Recently LEHS seniors participated in our Fall Senior Day of Service, a tradition that the Class of 2016 started. A large group of seniors volunteered at Feed My Starving Children and together packed 89 boxes of food which equates to 19,224 meals that will feed 53 children in a third world country for a year. You can read about this partnership in a recent Little Elm Journal article. Other seniors spent the day helping at all of our other LEISD campuses helping with tasks such as tutoring students, reading to students, helping at recess and lunch, cutting out materials needed for lessons, and putting up bulletin boards. And still others helped at Frisco Fastpacks and Little Elm Lovepacs preparing donations of food for local families in need of assistance. Our PALS (Peer Assistance and Leadership) group volunteered at the annual Clothe A Child event last weekend. We also have many clubs and organizations who volunteer in our community such as our girls basketball team who adopts a local roadside and regularly can be seen picking up trash alongside the road. The LEHS Student Athlete Leadership Council volunteers at other LEISD campuses. They have volunteered their time to read to young students at several LEISD Elementary Schools as well as helping at drop-off and pick-up. Many LEHS student organizations participate in the LEISD Angel Tree providing Christmas gifts for families in need within our district. All of these opportunities provide LEHS students with meaningful volunteer opportunities that make a difference in our community. As Martin Luther King said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?”

LEHS Graduation Honor Cord Criteria
As you may have already heard, we have established new criteria by which all graduation honor regalia will be awarded. The new criteria has been developed using the district designations for College, Career, and Life Ready (https://www.littleelmisd.net/readiness) as well as the district's core values. By standardizing honor regalia, we ensure that all students receive the same opportunities to earn recognition for their hard work. We have carefully studied the past designations to make sure students will still receive credit in the new system even if some activities are combined into larger categories.
We commend our students for excelling in academics and other extra-curricular activities, and we are confident that this new system will expand opportunities for each student to earn recognition for their hard work while maintaining the high standards of our district mission of becoming, "The Destination District"!

Report Harmful, Harassing, and Bullying Behavior
LEISD has an on-line tool called "Anonymous Alerts" that students, parents, and teachers can use to report harmful, harassing, and bullying type behaviors. Anonymous Alerts bullying reporting mobile app helps combat bullying and other negative activity in schools by empowering students to speak up. Social and peer pressures are some of the hardest obstacles for students to overcome. Anonymous Alerts encourages students, parents and staff to quickly, easily, and anonymously report bullying, cyber-bullying, gang-related issues, and other sensitive topics through private messages to school officials by building. All reports remain completely anonymous even during a two-way email conversation, although submitters have the option to reveal their identity if they prefer to have a person-to-person discussion.
To send a report from the Web/Internet go to: www.anonymousalerts.com/littleelmisd/
To send a report from your phone:
